A 328 block may drop in a 308 fine, but the hook ups (inj system, ignition system, etc.)are the problem. I do not believe it will be cost effective for the extra 25 hp since you will need everything from the 328 to drive the motor properly. It will be cheaper, by far, to modify a 308 engine for the extra hp. I do agree with you about getting a new motor from Rutlands. If you snap a timing belt and screw up a piston in the process, why spend the rumored $15-20K for a rebuild when you can get one already rebuilt for 6-7K? For that kind of money you can throw another 5K in the head and outrun a 328 and still save big $$$. |

I want to know the same question: What does it cost to just replace the motor, labor only? And what all does the normal motor that you buy include? Do you just basically take the old one out, put the new one in, turn-key? Correct me if I am wrong, but if repair bills on your 2V or 4V start getting into the $4K range, would you not be as well off just pulling the motor and going with the $6 or $7K replacement and forget about it? Am I missing something here? I have heard all of these shock and awe stories of $10K (and up) repairs on 2V and 4V, so why would one not snatch up that 328 new motor on ebay for $14K or less and have a mechanically brand new car? Thoughts? |

Thanks for the "heads-up" Charles, Im just trying to see what I can get for my $$. Does Ruttlands have any sort of guarantee, I wonder? Have they "tested" the engines in any way? Compression, leak-down? Thanks again. |

I know, the trans. should not be part of the engine sale, buy you know what I mean. Like, would I actually need the ignition switch? Any other stuff? |

What kind of extra "goodies" could posibley be left out of a used Testarossa engine sale? ie. computer, transmission? etc... If I would buy an engine, I just want to make sure EVERYTHING is there. Any parts you can think of that the seller may want to "keep"? |

TRutlands told me last summer that they had "plenty" of used 2v 308 engines for $5k "or so". Perhaps the lower price is for an exchange? |

You can get a NOS still in the crate complete 308 engine from TRutlands for well less than $10k. In fact, Ted has a NOS complete TR engine listed for sale in the FML for $10k |

Kinda curious as to what a nice running used 308 engine might cost. Anybody have experience? (Would be putting in a different car.) |
