Chris,

The 348GTS really looks good with a painted roof!
Shows the lines of the car much better than with the black roof.
Wait a minute:
Chris and Paul, you both come from the UK, right?
Perhaps you might be interested in taking part at our 1st european Ferrarichat track meeting in june at the Nürburgring?
There are already several people from the UK taking part. You are of course invited as well so if you are interested take a look at the european section for the programm, times etc.

Hi Everyone,

Took the excellent advice and applied a hair dryer and some force. Ended up having to peel the rubber away in places but finally got the roof off :-)

See pics below -

Pics 1 & 2 - Finally got the roof off but it left some rubber left behind.

Pic 3 - Vaseline applied to eliminate problem in the future

Pic 4 - Roof back on

Exactly that was the word I was searching for...
Thanks Paul :-)
It should be worth a try with a HAIRDRYER, shouldnt it?
:-)

Chris,

Perhaps you try to get the glued rubber a bit warmer before you carefully try to remove the roof. I would suggest to use a device with whom you normally dry your hair (Sorry whats the english word for that? Shame on me...)
If you get it warmer it wont crack for sure.

Thanks for all your help; I tried the roof removal last night and unfortunately the rubber surround seems to have 'glued' itself on in parts... ie. I am unable to take the roof off without sustaining damage to the rubber surround - it'll split. I guess this is because the roof hasn't been off for a very long time. Any hints about how to free the rubber off? or am I going to have to get it sorted professionally ?? Everyones cars look great by the way. I shall upload a picture on mine tonight.

Chris,

You noticed that strange bright round thing up in the sky at the weekend as well eh?? :-)

Once you do get it off try a little Vaseline on the rubbers (Lewd joke prompt!) - seriously - this works well on mine as it keeps the rubber supple and stops them sticking to each other.

Ferrari of Washington, has tried to fix it 3 times....I have the paper work showing reseals, new "rubber surround"...all kinds of things.......still drip drip drip....:-) Oh well, take the good with the bad......just like a woman!:-)

Sounds like its just not been off for a while Chris, follow Chucks instructions to the letter and it should come out fine.

Prepare for it to never be watertight again...only kidding, mine seems ok but then I'd never be daft enough to play a hose over the roof seal areas.

You want to push up on the front where it attaches to the headliner. The rear of the roof cannot be pushed up because it is held in place by two horizontal pins. Sounds like your rubber seal is sticking. It's not very delicate - don't be afraid to bang it upward a bit; just make sure it doesn't dislodge from the rear pins in the process. Once the front is loose, lift the front up and pull the roof toward the front of the car (and out of the two pins). This can be done by one person, but you might find two people - one on each side of the car - will be able to control the roof better. It is a bit unweildy, but not very heavy.

Ok, so I guess this may be a real easy one BUT... I'm having trouble removing the roof of my 348 GTS (or at least I think I am). It's not sunny very often in the UK, so when the sun does come out it's nice to take advantage of the situation....

I pull the two release levers - each located under the sun visor flaps on either side of the cabin and then what.... I just push up and the roof comes off ?? - no it doesn't... Perhaps I should push harder? - but I am reluctant to do so as I feel that it should not be this difficult.

Is there a step I'm missing ? - the manual is not exactly helpful on this.
