EFWUN: I did that on mine. Great for about 1 day. After that gets too loud. Also attracts too many cops. Art |

Whether you will love it or not depends upon how much you value your ears. I find my bone stock 355 exhaust just perfect with respect to volume of sound, any louder nad I would be wearing earplugs. The bypass cat operates any time the RPMs are above 3500 RPMs. At around* 1/2 of the RPMs where the header is tuned, the wave effects from the header system actully decrease power rather than increase power. The other exhausts are present to avoid that hole in the torque curve around 2500-3000 that occurs because the 355 header is tuned for 5000-7000 RPMs. {Aside: I have a motorcycle that I do have to wear ear plugs while riding, I think now that this was not a good thing to do to the bike for the small performance gains. When I was 20-30 I thought differently, but at 50 I actively work to protect what hearing I have left} *The actual RPM where the header hole exists depends upon both the header tuning and the cam timing. |

The coolest sound (in my opinion) on a 355 is just to use the tubo-solo (Pipe only) Tubi, no mufflers! Almost bearable at an idle, and certainly bearable at a 3,500rpm cruise, but when you let it rip, WOW, 1970s F/1 Cosworth sounds!! You'll love it. |

Mark: I am doing just this right now to my TR. I have gutted the pre-cats. DO NOT gut out the cats......they are TOO expensive to replace, and can be easily sold, if one should want to. Replace the cats with straight pipes, and put the cats off in storage......don't get rid of them. When you sell the car, the new owner WILL want them. No one seems to care about pre-cats, as long as they can see them. My next step, doing today, is to cut open the stock muffler, and remove some of the baffling. I will also make straight pipes to replace the cats. This will keep the car looking all original.

I know a lot of people gutted out their cats to improve performance at a loss to emissions. What about keeping the two cats intact, but gutting out the bypass cat, so at full throttle, bypass valve open, there would be low backpressure, while keeping emissions at other times. |
