I may have this wrong, but I have seen many threads on O2 sensors both here and on Porsche discussion groups.

There seems to be 2 types of O2 sensors - a 3 wire and a 4 wire. The 4 wire has an additional earth wire, to the 2 heater wires and signal wire as normal. I believe these retail for about $40. Try www.pelicanparts.com. It may be that these can be used for 348s as well.

Chuck,

You are experencing the most annoying of problems associated with 348 ownership. It is not clear to me what kind of problems you you may be experiencing. I assume it has to do with the red slow down light for bank 5-8. That is one problem not associated with the O2 sensors. It says there are something going on with your CATS.

When I had this problem, I replaced the CAT10 PCU. Problem resolved. The O2 problem was something entirely different. That was an interrmintent problem that I chased for a year that I feel is now taken care of with the installation of ground straps from O2 sensors to transmission case.

I'll look for the part numbers this evening when I get home and post them tomorrow.

I know this topic has been discussed extensively but, for those of you with 348's having these well-known problems, what specifically did you do or replace to fix the problem? Did you replace the O2 sensor for the 1-4 and/or 5-8 banks, or was it the associated ECU, or something else? I remember a thread where someone wired a ground between a sensor and the tranny housing.
And where can I get a Bosch O2 sensor? I saw that someone got one for $125 but I'm getting quotes of $300. And the $75 ECU's - where do I find them and what exactly are they called (part number)? I have the parts catolog for the car and can't find these ECU's listed anywhere. Are they located underneath the air filter where the O2 sensor cables plug in?
The random loss of power and "slow down 5-8" light is becoming really annoying. Previous owner had this problem and dealer was unable to diagnose it back in 1998. If it's something I can do myself, I will. Otherwise, I'll just pay the piper.
