Thanks for the compliment Byron, the wheels are actually a dark metallic Grey, as for the car being raced, I know it was raced in the European Challenge series but am finding it impossible to get any history on the car.

I tried to state that I was unsure, if I am wrong I am more than open to being so. Hence, "very limited experience".

Craig, you might want to read up on modern engine management systems, I suggest The Bosch Handbook and Bosch Automotive Electrics and Electronics, available here: www.sae.org

As I stated previously, in my vast experience, proper diagnostic procedures will almost always find the swiftest and least expensive repair, and last time I checked, injectors were not cheap, plus, it would su*c if it turned out to be a $30 regulator or some such.

Fuel system pressure must also be checked, but you need the right fitting for the system and a guage that reads 100 psi. WSM is key.

Your problem has to be in the injectors, I am sure they are bosch. You should take out and either clean them or buy new ones. In my very limited experience, cold hard starts are usually a problem with the injectors. Until the car is warmed up, none of the componets of the injectors will work correctly if infact the injectors, and or system need to be replaced. The reason is, and I am sure I am not totally correct, but I believe that the system works off of barometric pressure and temperature, so if it is broken it will not open correctly and no gas can get through. Let me know

Rob - 1989, so Bosch Motronic 2.5... unless they swapped it out during the race season. The original owner did do some swapping of parts... I have some livery of the Tommy Hilfiger #29 F355 (I have the Daytona Carbon Fiber seats) and some "speciale" goodies underneath, too...

How does one check to see if it's 2.5 or 2.7? Are there any visual clues?

I will do some simple checks this weekend to rule out the obvious issues. Rob, if you have some simple "steps" you can suggest, that would be great. My email is [email protected]

Thanks for your help, guys.
Byron

btw, Michael... your challenge car is very nice, too! I thought I was the only one with black speedlines - well, at least maybe in the continental US!! Has yours been raced?

Proper diagnosis requires a disciplined approach. Load testing the electrical system, followed by...

Systematic approach is the quickest and cheapest solution. RPV is simply an educated GUESS, nothing more. I never advocate randomly swapping parts as substitute for diagnostic knowledge.

Difficult but possible to diagnose via internet. We need more descriptive details of your malady.

Happy to assist,

Rob

Ps, to assist on Steve's idea, you have Bosch Motronic 2.7 unless it's a 1989 or very early '90, then it's 2.5 Motronic.

Search for "technical references" post I did a couple months ago.

Byron, my challenge often stands for 4-5 weeks when I cannot drive her, she always starts 1st time, even the battery is good and it has a tracker running. Could be the connectors on the air sensors, mine occasionally runs on 4, after I disconnect and reconnect she runs like a dream.

Byron -- Try an internet search (not here) on the name of the fuel injection manufacturer and brand/family (e.g., "Bosch Motronic X.Y" or whatever your 348 has) -- found some pretty decent/useful sites for the Bosch K/KE-Jetronic that way.

Rob,
I'll check the battery for a better connection. Also, do you mind elaborating a bit on the residual pressure valve?

Byron, the fact that your car is a former Challenge makes no difference to trouble shoot. Do a search of the archives for hard starting.

Here's my "jump start": Check the cheap and easy stuff yourself: battery, batter connections (backing soda and water here), ground straps.

I doubt it's plugs, possible fuel system if the residual pressure valve is not maintaining pressure while the car's off.

Weekend driving has nothing to do with it.

A little troubleshooting on your own will help us all to diagnose via Internet.

I'm currently experiencing cold hard starts in my 348. It was a former challenge car, now being driven on the streets with challenge setup/ECU's, etc. After the car is warmed up, the engine start is not much of a problem...

What can be the cause of these hard starts? Do I need to change out my plugs for hotter ones? Is it the fuel system? Wiring? I drive on the weekends only, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Any input would be helpful...

Any 348 challenge owners out there that can provide some helpful hints here?

thanks.
B.
