I can't believe the steel wool thing is known by other people. I just knew you guys were going to bust my balls about what a stupid idea it was. I am going to call my friend and tell him that he didn't invent it. |

0000 Steel wool, won't hurt glass or chrome. It works awesome on chrome for getting it CLEAN. Even small rust "dots" shrink away to virtually nothing. Ive used it on glass windshields many many times. Just make sure the steel wool has 4 0's. 0000 |

Steel wool works great and you can even wet it with some laquer thinner or acetone to chemically remove any stains while the steel wool scrapes it away. I recommend using very fine steel wool as this will not harm the glass in any way. Another thing to try is rubbing compound. Some good paint rubbing compound works very well and I have used it several times to remove the light 'sandblasting' that older windshields tend to get over time. |

Matt, You may take it to a pro for advice, windshield as with all glass has micro pores which this gook got into, the steel wool may just hit the surface I had a few small chips on my lower fog lights and purchased many different grades of sandpaper up to 2000 grit to polish them out so it can be done, not that I'd try it on a $3000.00 windshield, but they also make a special type powder for polishing glass so a pro may be able to get it out |

Matt: We routinely use steel wool on windshields. Works absolutely great. I *think* it's available in different 'grits', so find the finest available. However, I think I'd try to find a chemical solution first, as it is a chemical problem. I'm puzzled as to why routine solvents wouldn't fix it, tho. Personally, I only use virgin's breast milk. (??????) Or the ink from Hal Needham's autograph pen. |

I am not kidding about this; I knew a guy in high school that cleaned his windshield with steel wool. Used to shine the thing up great. I can't remember the type he used but I could never see scratch marks, ever. It may be abrasive enough to fix your problem. I swear on my life I am not joking. I saw it myself. Also you my try a getting a box of razors and try carefully scraping it like you are removing a window sticker. |

You might try some acetone, it will take anything off, be careful with your paintwork |

My 2 year old accidently sprayed the orange cleaner on the windshield now it looks like I have dried water marks on the windshield. I tried to clean it and even used rubbing compound. Any suggestions? |
