Hi Marq,

Unfortunately Peter Brandt did not have the right switch for my car's mirror and so the quest continues. No - I have made no progress on the equivalent BMW part. Maybe it's just an urban legend!

Good idea. That's definitely the way to go! Are you still pursuing the BMW part?

Hi Marq,

Yes - Peter Brandt indicated that "shipping to Europe would be an additional $40.00 to $50.00". As I am going to be in NYC in 10 days time, I'va just asked him to quote for delivery to my office there. That should make it more affordable!

Let's see what he says.

Cheers, MARK

Did FoW quote you on the shipping? Just curious.

Hey Tazio,

Beautiful Spider...never seen a Veloce in yellow before, and it's rather nice! My car went through a bottom up rebuild last year and it must also be close to 100 points at this stage. The rebuilt engine has only about 300 km on the clock right now. She is beautiful and perfect!

Marq - your guys got back to me and they can get the switch in two days at the price you quoted. Only issue for me is that postage to Europe will almost double the price! Pretty scary huh? But be sure - once I get the part number, it will be posted!

Thanks guys, MARK

Mark:
If you end up getting the correct switch through BMW, please clue us in on the part #. We've gone through this a couple o' times but I don't believe the number has ever been published. Thanks!

Glad I could help Mark. Here is a pic of my Spider. I sold it several years back and still miss it dearly.

It is a 1979 US car converted to early 70's European carburetted specs. I did the restoration and it was a near 100 point car.

Hi Tazio,

Thanks for the information - I will see if I can get the part from my local Beemer dealer. I'm glad to see that there's another F-owner out there who also has an Alfa Romeo Spider

Take a look at mine towards the end of the page at: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/174013/213097.html?1048568196

Hi Mark,

The switch that you are looking for is from a mid 80's 7-series BMW. Sorry but I have no part number but I am certain that that is the switch. The dealer will surely have a picture of what it looks like before you have to order it. Alternativly, they are very robust and you can get a really good one from a local shop that deals in or parts out BMW's.

Mark,
I had a like experience with my 85 QV. Tried the BMW part but it clearly was not a proper fit.

I ended up finding the exact replacement switch for my car at Maranello Auto Parts. It cost me a little over $100.

Give them a call at 800-233-7820 - they should have a 328 switch as well. Good luck!

Hi All,

I've just found an old thread on this topic (http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/125725.html#POST82805) and would like to share my experiences with you.

The previous owner of my car also told me that there was an equivalent BMW part available for the 328's electronic mirror switch (part # 61803100). He thought that it came from a late 1980's 3-series BMW. My local BMW dealer pulled up the 3-series parts manual on his monitor, and I ordered a switch that looked like the Ferrari's switch (BMW part # 61311378847).

When I received the part a few days later, I was disappointed to find that it was different to the 328's switch. You will note from the pictures below that the BMW switch is curved, and the pins on the back are totally different:

Dscf8610s.jpg

Dscf8611s.jpg

The BMW switch is on the white background. Unfortunately there was no refund forthcoming from BMW.

Today I blasted my old switch with contact cleaner and connected it up again. When I started the car, both mirrors started adjusting themselves automatically, moving to their extremities! I tried to stop this by using the joystick and - PFFFFF - I blew the 7.5A fuse for the instrument panel. All instruments and gauges stopped working, as did the mirrors!

OK - so I removed the switch again and hope I have not screwed up the threads in the mirror adjusting mechanisms (as I had to manually push the mirrors back into a usable position). I drove down to my local filling station, got a new fuse and I'm glad to say that all the instruments work again! Phew!

Has anyone managed to track down the right BMW switch since the original thread died out in September last year? Alternatively does anyone out there know where I can get an original Ferrari switch??

Regards, MARK
