We had a decent day today after much rain and I wanted to "clear the carbon out" to get ready for the dyno day Saturday. The sound was really cool. Almost sounded like a turbo above 5k. No noticable change in performance, just the sound above 5k. |

It's like I started all this stuff last week. I don't know what I would do without this site, I need my daily dose of Fcar from somewhere. |

Damn. Nick's almost done with my heads . I'm checking cams out, but the thing that I really have to get on is pistons as they usually take a little over a month to make up. So if I order them today I wouldn't have them til the end of may. Granted I could prep everything else in that time, but I'm slowly running out of jobs here besides putting the engine back together and in the car. Note to self: order pistons. |

Just like what has already been said, Those intakes create a lot of suction and bugs, dirt, sand, whatever comes its way is going down into the engine. Don't run it if you don't have to and if you must, avoid dusty roads and construction areas. |

The car will probably have a much louder induction note. My friends pull the airbox covers off their cars if they are bored or someting, it makes them louder. |

Rob you think you have it bad, didn't Peter have to wait something like 8 months? I'm up to 6 already and don't think this thing will go back together before mid to late June to be honest. Just think how nice it will be when it's back, go do some donuts in the BMW, it'll be no time at all before the Fcar is once again being raced around. |

Rob, If you can keep the air entering the engine clean, I see no problem. There really isn't any significant ram air effect until to get to aircraft speeds. The principle advantage of the external duct is cool air, which does help. |

Ya know Rob, I would wait. Its not worth getting some sand or grit into the engine, you know what that would mean! How much longer do you have to wait to get it back?? Play it safe mon. |

And don't drive it in the rain unless you make a water deflector.... |

I would use some duct tape to keep the filter from popping out until you get the cover back. Make sure the edges stay sealed or the dirt will get sucked in around the seal. You may want to replace the filter when you get the cover back because all the dirt that falls thru the grill will get directly on the filter.. |

My air box cover has been sent to be restored and I am wondering if I can drive the car around with just the air filter. Can it still get enough air or does it need the high pressure air flowing through the ducts? Is air forced throught the filter or is it sucked? |
