We had a Ferrari 308 going up in a ball of fire at a Miami gas station a few years back. The problem there was a spark that came because the guy did not shut his engine off. Static ignited the vapor. |

Skip, I just bought a 25' roll of 5/16" ID fuel hose and took it from there. Only one odd size hose and that's the return line from the front, right-hand carb to the right gas tank and that's 1/4" ID. |

Peter, Did you order the Ferrari part numbers to replace your fuel lines or did you buy a bunch of hose and cut it to fit? If you cut it to fit did you keep track of how many feet you use and of what ID? |

Had it too (a leak not a fire) on the TR it was the return hose from the FI unit to drainback into the tank (when you turn off the engine). Scary thing. BE CAREFUL. -Ben |

Happened to me once (although the leak was far away from any hot engine bits). Gas attendant behind the counter must have been watching me, as I came in he said: "Hey dude, you got a huge puddle under your car". Looking at the car from a distance, I thought it must be one of the cooling hoses. I touched the puddle with my finger and smelled it: "Oh f---, that's gas!" I could see it pouring out of the small hose to the vapour separator. Was able to contain the leak with a rag that I had. Drove immediately home and replaced that hose with a new one. Every hose on my car is new now. |

Was reading a story on the WWW.tomyang.com website where he tells the story of a 308 GTS going up in flames while being fueled (he was in the passenger seat!). Anyway, my car was in for a major service and I had all the fuel hoses replaced, including the fuel filler hose that caused Tom's buddy's car to go up in flames. Mine was cracked and rotted and probably weeks or months from failing. This is the short hose that runs from the filler neck to the left side tank. Apparently the fuel can leak onto something that will light it up, so have yours checked. Let's face it, even the newest 308 is 16 years old now... |
