I was thinking of changing my battery. It still starts ok but seems to not crank over with as much power as it used to. |

Oh, and Mike P: I will have the charge checked as soon as I can to see that it's getting the right juice. Thanks. |

New battery did the trick! Went with the Optima Red Top, 710 CA...$109.99. There was an up-model with more amps but I figured, look, I'm already springing for the Optima... Started right up tonight, stronger than it EVER has. Between that and the new spark plugs, this car just keeps getting better! |

Lee, Sounds like you've got your answer. Just don't forget to figure out *why* the battery quit. In my case, two or three days straight of being charged with 17 volts (instead of say, 13 or 15) was the reason for its untimely demise...

Probably battery MSDs easy to disconnect to revert back to std coil ignition if bad msd box. Sounds like a great time with Dolly! Tell them both hello for me. |

Lee, LOL! I've been to Pigeon Forge... And Dolly is welcome to ride in my QV any time. I don't think my wife would mind at all, she's a fan.

Feel free not to buy from Pep Boys. Some of you may have heard of the reservist serving with the U.S. Marines in Iraq that was fired from his job at Pep Boys after being called up. His family had to file for bankruptcy and sell their house. The reservist has since filed suit against the company. Pep Boys clearly is not a very good corporate citizen, besides having violated the law. On the other side, there are a number of companies that not only support our men and women in uniform by not firing them, they actually go the extra mile. Sears is one such example. Sears not only holds a reservist's job, but continues to pay the difference between their military pay and their Sears salary. Sears also maintains all benefits for the reservist while they are on active duty. None of this is required by law. Sears is doing this out of its own pocket as an expression of support for our troops. Pep Boys could learn a thing or two from Sears. Attached is a link to a website with a list of the "good guy" companies that support our troops. Regardless of whether you agree with the current war on Iraq or not, we must continue to support the men and women who pay the price for our freedom. One way is to patronize the companies that support our troops and to tell them why we bring our business to them. Thanks for listening/reading. http://www.coldfury.com/HF/index.html |

Thanks so much, everyone. I hope this does it. Pep Boys has the Optima Red Top for $109. Advance Auto has them, too, and I like them better so I'll make sure they match the price. Oh, and Mike...looking to one-up a carb car, are you? Sure your QV is more reliable and all, but come on, an injected car just doesn't have that...uh...uh...thinking hard here....smell? (Come on up...we'll be the only TWO Ferrari's anyone in Sevier County, Tennessee has ever seen!) |

Lee, Buy an Optima battery - this whole board seems to agree on that one. Interstate Batteries carries them. Good luck! |

I just changed the plugs (NGK BP7EVX's) and oil this past weekend. Can't tell about the coil, though it has an MSD ignition put on by Ferrari of Atlanta many years ago. I will make a mental note to look into replacing the coils in the next few months, though. The more I search, the battery seems to be the culprit. I'll get a new one tonight. BTW, very funny Matt (sorry, "Don Lemus"). 'Round these parts we don't diss Dolly! ha, ha |

1. Not a bad idea to get a new battery. I and others on the board will recommend an Optima Red Top (try Peb Boys--one of the stores in Knoxville is bound to have the one you want). 2. You need to investigate whate caused it. Did you leave your dome light on? What does the battery look like--are the caps blown off? If so, it's "exploded" from overcharging, and you might need to have your alternator rebuilt. Can you "jumpstart" the car? If so, it would be good to check readings at your battery with a voltmeter... If, after revving the engine a bit, the battery is not getting, say, 13.5 volts plus or minus .5 volts, then something might be wrong with the alternator, or the voltage regulator inside the alternator. Do a search on 308 {AND} alternator and you'll come up with some recent threads about the issue. Alternator rebuilds are easy--Bosch parts. Can be tricky to get in and out though. I'd say jumpstart the car (just this once!), go for a drive, then come back. Try it again in an hour. If you can start, you might be OK. If not, then your battery isn't getting charged or is not accepting a charge--get a new battery and check the charging system (at the battery) with a voltmeter... This is one of the more easy ones, Lee . --Mike |

Carb car? Try a jump (or new battery) with starter fluid. Change your plugs and oil too. How old is the coil? When I swapped out my 30 year old Lucas it made a huge difference in starting. |

"I have to drive the car in the Dolly Parton parade this Friday in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee" It's trying to tell you something. It's your battery I would say as well. |

Unless the starter is disconnected, it sounds like the battery. I've had my battery in the Odyssey go dead when the kids leave an interior light on. The dash lights up, even the inside lights work, but the starter won't even engage. You may want to buy a completely new battery |

HELP! I have to drive the car in the Dolly Parton parade this Friday in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee!! Here's what happens: I turn the key halfway, all the dash lights come on, I wait 10-15 seconds for fuel pressure to build, and turn the key to start. There's the usual loud "click" from the engine (solenoid is OK??), and the dash lights dim as it pulls power, but no starter...no turnover at all. Just a click/dim and nothing else. I had this exact problem when I first got the car. The mechanic did a great job resurrecting the machine, but he put an "new" battery in it which had been sitting on the shelf for a while. The car wouldn't start after I got it home, same as above. Now, I did searches here when I first got it and came up with "clean the battery terminals well", and possibly "charge the battery", then "check starter". I did the first two items and I've been driving the car successfully for about 3 months. Now it's back, the same problem. We have had a sudden cold snap here lately; could that have drained the already weak battery? I'm going to put the trickle-charger on it again tonight and see if that helps. Meanwhile, any other quick-fix suggestions or things to check? Thanks a lot. |
