Ken, Under the front hood, take out spare tire, remove the part closest to the winshield (just behind the spare tire well). Here is a raw diagram to help you see what is under there. ALWAYS glad to help. Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

Where is the heater box and how do I access it? Is it under the dash or in the front bonnet section? Thanks. Ken |

Ok, culled this from the archives: The black boxes are small heat exchangers that are connected to the coolant system. There are filters in front of the heaters behind a plastic shroud. The shroud snaps on. I had to remove a hold down screw at the bottom of the heater box to get the shroud of the get at the filters. Not a hard project. Good luck. John it's been mentioned before, but without specifics that I recall. the filter material in the airboxes is 1/4" thick polyurethane foam. you can get it from home stores like the home depot (frostking F1524). it's used in window/wall unit air conditioners, and you just cut out the size you need using one of the airbox shrouds as a template (or the original filter if it still exists). this stuff is exactly like what came out of an '80 308, and it's absurdly cheap. you get enough to do at least two cars, so you can split the costs with a friend and each pay 50 cents :-) K Mart sells the gray poly filter material in their A/C filter dept.. Just cut and install. About $3 bucks. Enjnoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin |

Richelson, >>>...sometimes black insulation comes out. It is some form of foam. Is this the same material?<<< Odds are yes. It is the old old OLD filter that is basically falling apart. Time to change it. Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

I would like to do this as well. I have noticed that when I turn my A/C on that sometimes black insulation comes out. It is some form of foam. Is this the same material? Where is it coming from? |

Mike, Thanks for bringing this up. Tried changing mine this past weekend and saw no obvious way and simply moved on. Would LOVE to hear how to change the heater filter. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin

I figured I'd swap out the blower filters in the heater boxes after, say, 25 years or thereabouts. There have been a few threads in the past talking about materials to use: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/68822.html Magoo writes, "I went to Kmart and bought some a/c polyfoam material just like the orig., cut them to shape, and replaced them." Great. But *how* do I open the heater boxes where the filters are stored? I didn't see anything immediately obvious... Do I need to disconnect the hoses at the box first? How does the box actually come apart? TIA, Mike
