Yep hot cabin air, I just disconnected all the Coolant pluming under the dash. I am going to check the temp at the vent and see if it lowers it today. in the past, the vent temp on a 75 degree day would be about 124. |

>>I've tried doing the credit card trick, but a lot of fins are still beat << They make a tool for striaghtening fins..it has 4 sides for all the various fin withs, it's called a Radiator Comb...really works on all but the completely trashed. Snap-On, MAC, etc.

My A/C condenser is beat pretty badly. I've tried doing the credit card trick, but a lot of fins are still beat and was wondering if there's an aftermarket condenser that would not be too pricey. |

Then perhaps it is a true recirculating system--depends on the path the air from the blower in the passenger footwell takes--does that air itself make it to the evaporator? |

>>I'd rather not go the duct tape route . Thanks.<< I use Black Racers Tape...it's at least equal to the original construction & design of the rinky dink connecting hose. >> people couldn't come to a consensus about whether or not the A/C was a recirculating system, etc. << Really? they might not understand what a Recirc System is. The 308 is not a recirc system. A true recirc system passes cooled air back across the evaporator to bring vent temp increasingly lower than is otherwise possible because a very efficient system can only achieve a 20-24 Degree Drop across the evap.

I was checking out the A/C tonight, getting ready for warm season here in New Mexico. First, my question. There are two, approximately 1" HOLES, apparently factory according to the manual, on either side of the A/C ducting just before it reaches the main A/C vents (the ones below where the stereo goes). Apparently, these are to provide cool air to the driver's and passenger's feed. What a crock! I don't want cold air at my feet! I had never noticed, but there is a HUGE amount of air coming out of those things. I'd say almost as much leaves there as actually makes it out of the main A/C vents. Does anybody have any ideas about a nice-looking, acceptable fix to plug those holes? I'd rather not go the duct tape route . Thanks. Also, an observation. I was reading some archived threads, people couldn't come to a consensus about whether or not the A/C was a recirculating system, etc. The blower for the A/C is just behind the fusebox. It sucks air from INSIDE the cabin, from the passenger footwell area to be exact. It then brings it in to the main duct area and comes out of the A/C vents below the stereo. Correct operation, according to the manual, is the CLOSE the outside VENTS, so no external air gets in. Sounds good to me. The system is an internal cabin-air recirculating one. You want fresh air, you gotta open up the vents. I kind of like the simplicity of it, I find things are pretty easy to control once you know what's going on. Mike |
