I think I figured it out. In my car this valve is part of the air injection system .It pulls its vacum from the throttle body, when the valve is electronicly opened it passes the vacum to the cut off valve tunning the air injection system eather on or off. When the electro valve shuts off the cut off valve would stay asit was unless there is a way for the stored vacum to vent off.Which it does through the vent in our friend the electro valve..THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP. I am going to go fight cape cod trafic and see what brakes in the car today...

Daivd H. -- I believe the vacuum source (intake manifold) is never (supposed to be) connected to the "vent" for these three-fitting electrovalves. In this example:

When unenergized, a coil spring inside the electrovalve presses the internal plunger forward -- "closing" the line to the vacuum source (plenum not pendulum?) and allows an air connection to exist between the vent fitting and the cold start valve fitting (which assures no vacuum on the cold start valve).

When energized, the internal plunger moves back to close the vent fitting and connects the vacuum source fitting to the cold start valve fitting (actuating the cold start valve).

If you have air being drawn in the vent fitting, then the internal seal(s) on the plunger have failed and the electrovalve should be replaced.

(I'm not familiar with any 2-fitting electrovalves.)

David did you ever think the diaprahm may be bad in your switch letting vacuum pull through. Or you have the wrong end open. The vent has to be open on that valve.

This thing is causing alot of confusion I hope some one really knows about it. I have a 1986 Mondail, my car has the valve as showed in your picturs, but my parts catalogue shows a valve that only has two conections not 3 .. If you guys ar right about the third conection being a vent I JUST caint buy it ,because that would allow un filtered air to enter the intake manafold, witch is where(on my csr) the vacum hose ends. I wonder if there ar two diferent valves one with 2 and one with 3 conections , and my car hs the wrong valve .. I pluged the third conection on my cer and it seems to help my eratic idle, that is another topic I will post when I have more time thanks for everyones help DAVID..

There was a previous post, I'm not sure what happened to it, but it stated the open port was a vent. I think that's correct.

I have a 1985 308 GTS/QV and that's the same as mine. I have one end that is open and not connected to anything.

Scott, That looks correct as it is on my 79 308. That end is open.

That's the way mine looks. I have one on the clutch side too that does not have a hose plugged into it. I really did not know what these peices did. So thank for the picture and letting us know.

Guys,
Is this hooked up wrong? This is the right front electrovalve on a 82' 308 GTSi that controls the cold start air valve. It just looks wrong to me. From the way it looks in the owners manual it's not very clear on how this is hooked up. Can anyone offer some advice or look on their cars. Thanks,
Scott
