If anyone has some pics of their early carb 308's undercarriage, that would be great!

Thank You,

Anthony

No, Sean, I am not talking about the blue '77 GTB at Forza. Why?

Also, I spoke with many well-known Ferrari body shops and they all told me that the frames (I am not talking about body panels) were hand sprayed, drips are common, and they are not surprised that the steel access panel has some black chassis overspray on it. The frame of the car I am looking at does not indicate any evidence of an accident and there is no color discrepancy in the black paint on the frame - it is all dull and old looking.

Thanks,

Anthony

As long as we're talking undercarriages, does anybody have a photo or diagram of a 308 bare chassis? I've seen a zillion photos of the car and engine, but none of the bare frame itself. (no, I don't have stacks of Ferrari manuals or I would look for it myself.) I've often wondered about the overall rigidity of the frame considering that some cars had full roofs (GTB), some targas (GTS), as well as some spyder conversions.

There should be NO overspray. I have done repair work on mine and looked at many original 308s. They are clean from the factory and overspray is an indicator of repair or at a minimum sloppy detailing attempts. They can indeed be a little rough and not perfectly straight from the factory and I have also noted on cars of identical years differences in painted areas of a car. Example: Euro model QVs may or may not be black on windshield pillars, black only on lower part of sill and other "optional" decisions made at the factory.

Anthony--While I can't identify any runs /drips on my undercarriage, there is a mix of paint and fairly sloppy undercoating all over the place. A lot of car guys, like myself, do their own undercarriage spraying and aren't particularly careful as none of the undercarriage shows. I wouldn't necessarily assume that that means that the car in an accident

Everything under my car is painted, and on the frame itself, it is, uh, a little thick in places. As in runs and drips.

Matt,

did you notice any overspray on the piece of sheet steel on the underside of the car toward the front?

Thanks

"but my mechanic noted the chassis was painted by hand at the factory"

NO!!!

They are stamped in on the pass side engine bay near the rear shock and on a plate on the driverside door jam

There should be no overspray.

Ferrari's are made like crap, but not at Bondo Bob "we do insurance work" Auto Body

During a pre-purchase inspection of a '77 308, I looked underneath the vehicle while it was on a lift. I noticed that when the black chassis paint dried it left drip marks on the bottom of each frame member. Also, the sheet steel covering under the floor pan had black overspray on it. Since this was my first time actually underneath a 308, I got worried and thought the car might have been in an accident and someone had poorly repainted the frame, but my mechanic noted the chassis was painted by hand at the factory and these drip marks/overspray marks were normal.

Do your cars exhibit the same thing I described?

Thank you,

Anthony
