While I know that a number of chatters say the the new synthetics don't leak any more than petroleum oil, mine definitely did w Mobil 1 15w-50. So, if you put it in your QV it may leak a bit more. A couple of Ferrari mechanics I know also said that, in spite of claims, the synthetic can be expected to leak more in older Ferraris. At present, I 'm using Castrol 20w-50. A couple of guys on Chat rec'd it to me awhile ago and it seems to be fine. |

I very much believe that a little thicker oil is needed in the older Ferrari engines. Clearances are a little larger. The pump is quite 'prolific', in that it puts out considerable volume at almost ridiculous pressures, but I think the telling feature is pressure at idle. You'll see some pressure reduction when hot at idle with the thinner oil. I'm staying with Mobil 1 15W50, or if I have to use 'Dino' oil, Castrol makes a similar weight. |

In a nutshell, the 5W50 starts better/easier in colder weather, since its low temp rating is a 5W. Comparing the two based on this low-temp rating for a Ferrari is useless, as very few (of us) drive their cars in the winter. So I suggest either one (Syntec/Mobil 1) will suffice. |

A lot of has been said about synthetic vs. non-synthetic, but how about the 5W-50 vs. 15W-50 debate? Many companies sell 5W-50 synthetic (Agip), and many other companies sell 15W-50 (Mobil 1). Without debating the companies themselves, what is the thought on using a 5W-50 oil vs. a 15W-50 oil? My 308QV recommends using a 10W-50, but this weight does not seem to be made anymore. I currently use Agip 10W-40 SINT, but I want to switch to a full synthetic. Which weight should I use? Also, what are the thoughts on using a 10W-60 racing synthetic oil? Agip makes a 10W-60 racing oil which I have been considering, but I have heard that some racing oils are not meant to be used in street cars because they lack some important ingredients (whatever that means).
