I don't really know what kind of crud it is, but fresh oil and a new filter makes it go away. It probably a mixture of burned oil and blow by that loads up the filter. It generally takes about 50 miles or so after a track event for the oil to crud up the filter and stabilize at its new operating pressure/temp. Yes, there is a thermostat connected to the oil dry sump/radiator system, but it only regulates when/(how much) oil gets to the raidator, not when/(how much) oil gets pumped through the engine. |

for out hot climate the 15/50 is the better oil. 5/30 works good in cold weather.

Martin - I'm looking at the parts book and I don't see one. Unlike the water, which has sensors for the fans, the Oil-Water Heat Exchanger seems to bolt directly to the the water thermostat housing behind the water pump so that it is "on" or flowing all the time. Doody - good question..his is 5-40 and mine is 5-30!!!!!!!! Don't know if that's a good idea. See above thread on 355 oil pressure question. Would welcome your thought / comments. FL |

Martin, glad to see you made it home. I kept my eyes open on my drive back from Sebring. Was hoping I did not see you stuck anywhere. Hope you figure the problem. |

They cut the filter open to see if the filter collapsed and it did not. Nothing there that is constriction the flow. Next thing will be to check the oil cooler, bypass it and see if it is in there. Does anybody know if there is a temp sensor that opens and closes the oil cooler on this car??

Martin: I watch my F355 very closely. I generally loose 4 PSI/day at the track on 15W50 Mobil 1. Measurement technique: watch oil pressure guage while street driving to the track; thne watch oil pressure guage while street driving home from the track. So after a two day session, I loose just undr 10 PSI. If you are losing more pressure than this, something is wrong. I can generally drive the snot out of the car on the backroads and never get the oil pressure to move over months and thousands of miles. But one day at the track and--bang--oil pressure drops; fresh oil, and its back to where it should be. This could be because of tow different things: 1) oil gets fried, 2) oil filter loads up with crud. Either way, fresh oil and filter do the trick. |

Since the track day friday I have low oil pressure 9when hot one dash below center and high oil temp, one dash over middle. Obviously if the pressure is low the friction is higher the temp goes up, so it likely is a pressure problem. Oil level is good, oil is brand new, Mobil One 15/50, no leaks.\ Any ideas? |
