I went out and bought the VW oil pump nuts referenced here and they seem to have done the trick. The Tranny plate was the one that was really leaking. The nuts were 50 cents each and I needed 32. Cheapest fix I have ever made on the car. Thanx all |

Permatex makes Hylomar also. AutoZone & most other major auto parts stores carry it. |

Don, You can get Hylomar here: http://www.rdent.com/pages/parts.html Look a little more than half way down the page. |

The oil is leaking through the treads. JRV posted the fix. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/180692.html |

Speaking of pans, do you know the proper torque value for the pan nuts? |

I learned this from a post Rick Rainbolt made the the FerrariList quite a few years ago Use silicon Form-A-Gasket on the pan/cover to gasket side and Hylomar on the gasket to motor side. That way when you go to drop the pan for some service at a later date the gasket stays with the pan/cover where it is easily cleaned off on the bench. I've used this tip to great advantage in a number of locations including both the trans pan and the oil pan on the 308. No leaks... No problems. |

Oil change time again. Last time I installed a new gasket on both engine oil and tranny pans/plates. I installed them "dry", no sealer, silicone or anything else and they are really leaking. Obviously have tried tightening the bolts but am afraid to really crank them as I will surely strip them. What works best to seal these two gaskets?? |
