I had the same problem Steve M is talking about. Only did it on the first drive of the day, and the first or second application of the brakes, then was fine until the next day. Replaced check valve and all was well. |

I am told the booster vacuum hoses are prone to leak (splits). |

I think if I remember correctly the OM says to leave the car in gear while going down a hill. I know my QV stops wonderfully but if I am going down a hill and put it in neutral it takes more to stop it. I am not sure if this is the problem that you are referring to. |

Ken -- I have a hard time linking "large force required at the pedal" with any fluid-related problem, so I'd try to confirm vacuum or no vacuum on the booster side of things. I had a sticky vacuum check valve that gave the infrequent "no power assist on first brake event coming out of the parking lot" (when the check valve shuttlecock inside would stick to its seat) which was scary when it happened, but if your problem is more consistent you could just have a big leak somewhere (but you don't report bad/different engine behavior). If you're lucky it's the check valve, if your unlucky it's something in the booster/hose -- good luck... |

Mine has always been hard at low speeds. I assume you checked your fluid level? If it was low, you may need to bleed them due to possible air in the system. |

Yesterday when I took my 308QV out, I noticed that the brake pedal felt funny. Whenever I applied the brakes, the pedal felt very hard and I had very poor braking ability at low speeds (under 10 mph). My brakes felt almost like manual brakes. What could be causing this problem? Could the brake hoses need replacement, or should I flush the brake fluid? Also, how do most brake pedals feel in other 308's? My pedal has always had a hard feel to it; especially at low speeds. Is this normal? The brake pedal almost feels like my Alfa did when the brake booster when out (i.e. manual brakes). Thanks.
