Jay, it doesn't look like either picture. It is bluish/silvery in color. About 3 times as long as it is tall. With the prancing horse logo on the left end and the code numbers on the lower right end. The photo that I have is blurry because it was enlarged from the entire engine photo. But it's not like those two stickers shown down the page.

My original posting seems to have stirred things up a bit. The reason I was originally curious about the paint code sticker: Another guy sent me some photos of a 308 spyder conversion. I would have thought that the engine covers of those conversions would either be aftermarket, or the original metal top that was extensively reworked and repainted. In one of the photos that he sent me, there is an original Ferrari paint code sticker on the center of the rear of the top cover. I would have thought that it would have been: A. missing on an aftermarket spyder top cover, or B: ripped up or removed in the extensive modification work required on an original engine cover during the conversion process. I also posted a seperate thread seeking info on these spyder conversions, but nobody replied. I am still in the dark.

I have the Glidden tag. Anyone know how to decypher the numbers to see if my car is original color? My numbers are 699.1.699. The "1" COULD be a 7 and the second to last "9" MAY be a 6, it is hard to read the "scrawling". Thanks!

My 78 had a fairly plain foil sticker on the underside of the hatch with the 'Questa Vettura.....' statement and the color written below in a cursive style writing. Mine is dead and could use another.
In addition, what is the Italian word for yellow?

Jay
No, my sticker is "original" (or at least was put on after the car was repainted by PO some years ago).
Incidentally, it is a squarish, fairly plain looking G-S "chrome" sticker.

The Glasurit decals were printed on with ink. All of the Glidden ones I've seen have been written on by hand with a stylus. I had my grandfather write in it with his Italian penwork :-)

How were the paint codes printed on the original stickers? I have seen some that look like they just used a stylus to scratch the foil. Is this correct or were the originals printed somehow?

For 1980, Glasurit provided the paint. Prior to this was Glidden Salchi

Thanks for posting that photo, but that's not like the sticker that I am researching. The one I have seen is a longer sticker. About twice as long as it is tall. It has the words, "questa vettura e' stata verniciata con smalto". I am wondering if it is an original Ferrari sticker. It is located on the rear edge of the engine compartment cover. Does my description sound like an original 1980 308 paint sticker?

Same on my 77. Jay Grande can (I think) make one for you if missing. Paint codes are in various books, including Bluemel's

Is there a paint code sticker on a 308? If so, where is this sticker located and what does it look like?
