All: Thanks for the advice. Did a little poking around and found that the throttle cable was caught on the throttle return spring. That cured the fast idle problem. NOw to tackle that brake problem. |

I would try connecting the aux. air bypass vacuum hose directly to a vacuum source, bypassing the electro valve, to make sure that it is closing. |

Steve, Thanks for the advice, and the docs. Tom, Yes, the fast idle light goes out when the car warms up. But instead of slowing down to about 1K rpm, it jumps to 4K. Throttle cable doesn't seem to be hanging up, and it appears to have full travel. I guess I could disconnect the cable, and see if the problem continues. Any thoughts? Thanks again! |

Does your fast idle light go off after the engine warms up? |

Stripping the female hex drive on those rear inboard caliper plugs is a common problem -- you'll need to either file/grind a groove into the head of the plug to use as a drive feature or whack the edge of the plug with a punch/chisel to try to rotate it CCW. Just finished putting the 308 back together after a long winter of cleaning (including rub 'n buff) and general maint. Replaced hoses and clamps, etc. Problem: The cold start, fast idle finally works, but when warmed up the idle shoots up to about 4000 rpm. tried adjust idle at throttle body but 4000 is right where it sits. Any ideas what else to look for on an '82 308 gtsi? Also when I tried to change the rear brake pads, I found the small backing "cap" on the right rear is stripped. Should have been a 4mm hex key, but it just turns in the opening. Cap won't budge. Anyone had this problem? Thanks in advance. |
