I didn't look at the past discussions but I use a drop of "Kroil" in mine every once and a while. This stuff is amazing and will find its way into the smallest spaces to free up the pin. Once it's freed up and when greasing, I lift the other end of the door slightly and wiggle around while pumping greae in to be sure the grease gets in all places. |

Eric - thanks for the information on the proper grease gun. In fact, I obtained one from a friend earlier in the day, and greased the nipple on the hinge. However, while this helped, the response was not dramatic. I then decided to do it correctly, and tried to remove the hinge pin. No luck. I removed the retaining cir-clip, and tried to drive the top hinge out towards the button. It was frozen. All I am succeeding in doing is mushrooming the top of the hinge pin. As one cannot get a vertical shot at the hinge pin (the door is in the way), the angled shot leads to destruction of the head of the pin. It appears that the only way to remove the pin is to heat the hinge with a torch, which of course, is out of the question. I have put WD-40 around the pin in hopes that it will work like anti-seize. Has anyone come across the problem, and how did they solve it? Thanks for your help Jim S. |

With regards to lubrication / grease nipples...here are a few past discussions on this: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/82614.html http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/1797.html http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/12761.html There's also some discussion in those threads about what size / type of grease gun to use on these. Haven't had to lube mine yet, but probably will eventually. Hope this helps. |

I have a "stiff" door on 1983 512 BBi. The hinges have a grease nipple, but they are difficult to access. Has anyone removed these types of hinges, and will they slide out with gentle persuasion? Will greasing through the grease nipple adequately accomplish lubricating the hinge (assuming I find a grease hose sufficiently flexible), or should I try and drive them out? Experience is appreciated. Jim S. |
