Tom, can you explain this in greater detail for me and the rest of the readers? I am interested in hearing more about this, and share it with my mechanic as well. Thanks. |

You can just buy the friction disks and save a ton of cash. $600-$800 just to install the clutch is totaly out rageous. That job should take no more than 3 hours to complete.(o.k if they have to reseal the flywheel then I could see the high labour). I have done these clutches also buy having the friction plates rebuilt for a couple of customers who want the cars but are thight on cash, with no trouble at all. |

Dual disk ran me $2100.00 with installation. It is really easy to install yourself, the only real tricky part is getting the damn o-rings over the output shaft. As far as how long they last it all depends on how you drive, shifting habits, riding the clutch at stop lights, etc. Mine lasted 19k from when the previous owner put it in the car. |

Depends on whether it is an early dual-disc or later single plate. BTW, clutch like on Ferraris seem to be all over the place, and both driving style and luck, seem to play into it. That is why so many clutches wear out at less than 20k, and others go forever. But IMHO, Ferrari clutches are not as stout at they should be. |

Dealer's list on complete dual disc clutch with throw out bearing is around $2,400. Then add about $600 - $800 in labor. They should turn the flywheel as well. Be aware that if the machinist who turns the flywheel warps it a new flywheel is $3,500. In my case the machinist ate it, and that was a noble act. Make sure whoever does your work stands accountable for the work they perform. Good Luck! |

John: I would sure like to know how your experience is going with the 348 - from finding one, owning one, etc. Plus, email me to give me a clue how the heck you retired at 34!!!! I'm 36 and far from it!!! [email protected] |

It all depends on your driving style... 3K miles-25K miles. I've got 8K miles on the clutch now and it's still good. But then I don't abuse it either. Just so you know, it will be >$2K to replace. |

Ha!! I am buying my first 348 and would love to know that too!!! But FYI the salesman said that a clutch "should" last "at least" 70,000 miles, unless you ride it a lot. As for pricing and rebuilding, I havent got a clue. DrS |

Do you "rebuild" these? If so, what does it cost typically, and how long do the clutches tend to last? Thanks everyone. |
