Sam I live 70 miles north of NYC and don't see a need for any modifications for the WP unless you want to track the car. My car runs on the 1st notch on the gage or about 170 degrees normal driving in the winter or summer and even with the AC on. In 90 degree temp it sometimes goes to 195 but when the fans turn on it drives it back to 170. I had the FD rebuild my old pump which was a large bearing cast impeller. Also when you talk to the FD ask him how he does the rebuild. He does not use Ferrari seals but a more common seal which he claims it works better. I'll see how many miles I get on his pump. |

thanks, did a search and found fd's number 1-888-595-1110 Also turned up a thread mentioning "straight impeller vanes on a rebuild vs. helical vanes on a oem?? should I go with oem (with composite "F40 impller") I know there has been much discussion on rebuilds and bearings of WP's but curious about higher performance wp's |

Sam, I'm assuming you've got a 3x8 of some kind. Search the archives, there was a long thread on water pumps last year. In it there's a pointer to the 308GTB web site TechTips on rebuilding water pumps including how to identify the 4 or so varients. IMHO rebuilding at ~$100 for the kit from T.Rutlands is the way to go(I did.) It only takes an hour or so longer to do the rebuild than to swap a pump out.

Got my Thermostat from Sodacom's.It has the thick plastic (nylon)plunger disc. Looks exactly like the one I took out. 57.00, got it in 4 days vs 3 weeks ('maybe') from Ferrari of Seattle. gasket was 4.00 and 'O' ring was 9.00. Anybody cheaper? DJ

Sam I just had mine done from the flying dutchman. 77 308 gtb. I had him rebuild mine but he has units on the shelf. Seems he does a lot of Jag rebuilds also. Everything look good and I put it on and it did not leak. Because I am in the middle of a belt change and valve adjust I have not stressed it but I don't think it will leak. Also Tony is easy to work with. |

here is what I've got so far... Flying dutchman - rebuilt $250 plus your core Evans auto - $399 new OEM but has "composite" (i.e. plastic) impeller he says is from a F-40, I fear plastic will break up inside like on the BMW Nick' FOrza - $?? says hig performance but I think he just polishes the inside of the casting T. Rutlnands $? Easy to rebuild so there may be many other sources...anyone with any positive experience. or new sources.. thanks also thermostat sources woudl be nice..I have seen thermo's with a plastic disc and others with a brass disc plate as well...any thoughts? |
