Tazio,

Nothing fancy here - I just went to Sears and had them install the best they had (less than $100). Works fine and despite starting only once a week, I've never needed a tender.

Make sure the battery has lift straps on it.
For a 308, any good quality from 500CCA's upwards will work fine.
Look at the batteries recommended for 4WD's as they are less prone to damage from vibration.
A sealed "No Maintenance" battery is also a good idea. Although not a drama, the less you have to check the battery in a 308, the better.

Where I live Optimas are hard to get and cost 2.5 times as much as a regular battery. I am not cranking the car in an arctic storm and I will have a battery tender on it so I have decided against the Optima. The aim of this post is to find information on good old fashioned car batteries for the F-car.

Tazio,

Get the Optima. Regular Battery's don't work as well in the f-cars.

I know the Optima batteries have been beaten to death on this forum but I just want to replace the battery on my 308 for a regular car battery. Are there any specs I should look for? Do I just shove the biggest battery I can in the spot I have or should I not go any bigger than the size on my original battery tray? Any guidance would be appreciated.
