Pete, I found my old switch. There are two parts you are missing. The asymetrical copper contact and the small black part that is in there that attached to the underside of the level that makes contact with the copper contact. I still have the contact and black part if you want them to try and repair your switch e-mail me if you want them [email protected]

Peter Do a search on the web for lucas switch. I recently bought one for my car from the UK for 3 or 4 dollars. http://www.vintagemotorspares.com/clientph/brmm4.nsf/supppages/hodge?OpenDocument&part=4 You just remove the black plastic handle that comes on the switch and put your round one on and it is identical. It only took about a week to get it. Stacy |

I'm not sure if it is a ballbearing or what. Basically, as you operate the lever the bottom half will make a connection with the two copper pieces in your picture. I think that its not a ballbearing but an angled copper piece. I'd recommend testing with an ohm meter or something else after you put it back together. |

I found the spring. If I find the ball bearing, should I be able to put it back together? |

Peter, I'm with Steve and David on this one. My switch came apart previously also, but I was able to find all the parts and put it back together. If I recall properly, there is a spring and ballbearing (that makes the contact) that is missing from your pic. I highly doubt that APS would have this part, check before you order. Henry |

Peter, As Matt mentioned, make sure you get the correct one for your car; the early ones were two position (on/off), during the GTSi production, they went to a three position (off/low/high). It is manufactured by Lucas, so it may be found in some British cars such as the older Mini Coopers (verified by some research I did). I have never seen these in a VW, and I owned a 72 beetle and 78 Rabbit in college. I seriously doubt that VW would be using Lucas electrical components in their cars. :-) |

From the APS catalog: "Our special thermostatic fan switch turns the fan on at 180 degrees F (stock 197F) It's a MUST to start cooling sooner and help keep engine temperature down." It includes a picture of the two pole SCREW IN thermo fan switch that screws into the RADIATOR. You may be talking about the interior fan switch, but you are not recommending the correct part. Please investigate further, and do correct me if I am wrong. Regards, Dave

Matt -- what did you mean by the "180 degree" in your earlier post? |

David. I am talking about the fan switch that turns the vent fans in the cabin on. I read the post and looked at the picks. You can also get the same switch from VW but I do not have a part number for them. It is also the same switch Fiat uses. |

Don is talking about the thermo switch that is screwed into the radiator. I don't think he completely read your post or looked at the pictures.... The console switch you need is a Lucas part. |

Peter S. -- Your (heater blower) fan switch has come apart (the chromed upper part is supposed to be permantely swaged to the white lower part) -- it's not a "connector" (the "connectors" are the two white female spade connectors on the male spades protruding from the bottom of the white lower part). You'll need a new switch if the internal bits are lost. |

While replacing the vent levers on my 308, the fan switch popped out of the connector. I thought I saw a small ball of some sort fall out of the connector or the base rocker of the switch. I am hopeful someone can tell me if I need a new connector or a new switch....Thank you
