The last time I had the covers off, I made permanent marks (a light scratch of the surface of the cam with a Dremel tool) on my cams on the OUTSIDE for alignment checks... |

problem solved---one of my direct fire coils pairs had been mounted upside-down--thus reversing the plug wires on front bank--dooooooooooo! |

for what it is worth, i just checked the cam belt wheels, and the cam marks are within 1-2 deg of the little "tabs" to reference them--not that they are very accurate mind you, but they are close enough for the motor to run--starting to look at the ignition again...all plugs do fire by the way. |

>>>NEXT TIME I HAVE THE VALVE COVERS OFF, I AM GOING TO DRILL A SMALL HOLE IN BOTH JUST ABOVE THE CAM ALIGNMENT TO BEARING MARK SO I CAN SEE DOWN INTO THE HEAD AND PUT A SMALL RUBBER GROMMET IN IT TO SEAL. << or you could just buy the regular ole "cam timimg tool". That allows viewing of the position of the cam marks from the outside. I've noticed the tool has been a well kept secret here. Oh well...cat's outa the bag now. :-) |

The weird thing is that I spent a week getting the shims perfect and setting the cams--first to TDC with the cam marks--then putting on the degree wheel and fine adjusting it to the valve opening---can not figgure where i missed anything--unless the belt jumped a tooth |

i can pull up tp 2 of the injectors from front bank and car will still run--but barely--it will try to crank on rear bank only but not quite get there. weird thing is that the plugs in the rear (hot side are slightly fouled, and the ones from front(cool side) and clean...go figgure. I have ordered a Raytek thermo gun to get header flange temps on all cyls.

Charles -- Do you have a way to verify the ignition-to-crank relationships? Sounds more like the front bank is dead and the rear bank ignition is severely retarded (but quasi-working). If you disable the rear bank ignition will the motor run on the (cold) front bank cylinders only? |

The front bank of my motor is running VERY rich and the rear bank is running lean. Engine runs really smooth, BUT after 3 mins of 2000rpm, the rear header is smokin' hot and you can actually touch the front one!!! barely warm. All of the EFI injectors are OK. Question: I set the cam timing very carefully, but IF IT HAS SLIPPED, could it be causing this scenario?? |
