Besides, I didn't even notice the color when I was chasing Johns 355 across the Skagit Valley at XXX+ MPH last Saturday. Didn't care if the radio was broken either. A matter of priorities! DJ |

Hi Dave, Not to be misunderstood on redying the interior and seats. They will stay black as well as the rest of the interior. I guess I was alluding to an unexpressed desire for a tan interior. The black on this car was a compromise when I bought it but quite livable anyway. Paul, I checked all of the carpet in the car and it is very even and consistant blue except for a small tab of carpet that wraps over the top /forward section of console which appears to have more of a black tint to it. If it is black faded to blue it is the strangest thing I've seen. Most faded black that I have seen fades to a lighter black. Must be a unique dye Ferrari used then. Yet another mystery but also livable and inconsequential at that. Not worried about concours on this one. Thanks, DJ |

DJ/David....my 78 gts black on black..the carpet has fadded to the funky blue color you mention...take a look at the carpet under the dash or behind the seats and you should be able to see remaining black...I tried to redye (sema products) once and it lasted until I shampooed the carpets...so I have blue on the sills. eventually, I am going to replace it... |

Oops, in case anyone catches what I am talking about, some of the original leather piping on Dana's seats was replaced with vinyl piping.... |

Dana, Remember that the piping on the seats will remain black, since they are vinyl, not leather. In fact, you need to check all the piping carefully, as they may have only replaced some of it. if it is not all replaced, you might be better off redying black. On my car I only replaced the driver's seatback piping, but I used leather piping to match the seat (tan). Yeah, it was pretty expensive to do it that way, but I'm pretty anal on that stuff... :-) |

I popped this question in General Discussion today also and somebody else mentioned blue carpet in a 79 but I don't know if it was a yellow car also. As far as I know mine is an original yellow car per what I could read on the paint code sticker (Giallo) and per the second owner whom I talked to shortly after I bought the car. While inspecting the car before purchase I also found the 'other' yellow. Thought the blue might have been an option. The color is even and consistant throughout the car including the carpet on the bulkhead behind the seats. The fact that someone else mentioned blue in another car really raises some questions. Did they dye tan carpet to blue? I plan on stripping and refinishing (Leatherique)the leather this summer so your theory on the tan leather may be proven out. Unfortunately I don't think I could bring back the tan on the door panels now that they are black. Too bad. Thanks for the input, DJ |

Dana, I was perplexed about your car too. Here's my thoughts: Your seats and door panels appear to be redyed (the cracks in the leather show tan, that is not usually the case with factory Connelly leather), from the original tan to black. If that is the case, then the carpets would be tan as well, and were dyed black. It appears that a lot of interior "freshening" was done years ago, as the seat piping was replaced, and it also appears that all the carpet serging (edging) was replaced as well. I have never seen the black carpets in a 308 turn to the shade of blue yours have, that is why I think they were dyed, as I HAVE seen dye jobs turn funny shades with age and sunlight. And while there were custom color combos, the most common interior colors with a yellow car (was your car originally yellow?) is black, tan or tobacco. The dash, console, door arm rests are always black vinyl. |

1978 308 GTS yellow. Factory blue carpet or faded black carpet? My experience with black is that it usually fades to a lighter black unless it had blue in it to begin with. DJ |
