Popping sound at start up

Did it even when warm before I richened up the idle jets. Sounds a little like a soft twig snapping. Take off the air filter, and see if you can see a carb 'sneezing' - a little puff of fuel vapor above a carb throat. If so, don't worry about it. Ferrari in Woodland Hills said it was normal while cold. Alan said it was a valve that would open and close. He said to not worry about it. Is the air pump belt on and the pump working? Next check the air rails at the cylinder heads for cracks or broken connections. Inspect the check valves on the air rails also. Is this the norm or should I be worried?
