Thanks for all the responses/comments. Really appreciate it. I too have many mechanical issues remaining, and have decided to hold off on the total repaint (for now). However, my euro front spoiler is pretty chipped up, and would like to get it repainted, then protected with that 3M customer film. Martin, can you tell me where you purchase this?

Hi Neil,
First off let me ask you what your intentions are for the car.
If it is your daily driver, I wouldn't worry about it. I am a very agressive driver and pickup a lot of little chips and spoiler mishaps, so it would be a wast of my $ at this point to repaint my car, which also has the crazing you speak of.

By the way, Stu is right on the money about the paint job....
Prep, Prep, Prep...
a good paint job will cost you $10grand for your car, unless you can do the disassembly work yourself, then you save a good chunk of change, and even more if you know how to strip and block sand.

I plan to have my car repainted but not for some time, since this car is my daily driver.
I am slowly going through the car, from the bottom up. suspension bushings - through - paintjob being last on the list.

Anyway, who can see the crazing when your going 70.. :)

When you are talking about the front spare tire lid, are you talking about the front hood?
That is the only piece that is made of aluminum not fiberglas. Even the 1976 fiberglas models had an aluminum hood.

concerning painting, I have repainted my front spoiler twice in 1 1/2 years. Just picked it up from the body shop. I will put 3M custom film on it now to protect it. No more stone chips for me.

Lets face it, a 308 is NOT a collector item. Too many made but a nice daily driver and that warrants some paint chips and possibility of repainting. A good repaint is worth more to me than the guy that has 20 year old original paint with cracks.

Paint it if you like but not at Maaco.

Hey Neil, I got some interesting info the other day while at Ferrari of Dallas. Some guy was in there shopping for a used 550, and the Ferrari guy was telling him they suggest repainting the front end of EVERY Ferrari they get in for a major service, because of the chips acquired due to the low front end. I suddenly felt better about the front respray on mine. If the front is that common, the whole car shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Just make sure you are dealing with a bodyshop that has had extensive experience with fibreglass.

Hey Neil, In my opinion (BTW I buy and sell cars for a living) I wouldn't worry about painting the car. It seems as though at least half of the 308's I see are repainted and if done well - and that is the key! - then it will actually save the value rather than diminish it. I stress then need to pay for a high quality paint job or don't do it at all. The 308 is a very difficult car to paint because of it's body lines and it's easy to be tempted to "skip" steps when doing the all important preperation. Pay to have the prep work done right by someone who know's what their doing! Ask your local F dealer who they use.
Sure, a car with the original paint still in good condition is going to be worth more than a repaint, but afterall these cars are now 20 +/- years old! Paint away!!!

I have a 1977 USA 308 GTB, and am considering repainting it, since it has crazing basically over the whole car, especially the spare tire lid (fiberglass). Would like your opinions on whether repainting would diminish the originality/resale value of the car. I understand the first few years of production the cars' paint cracked, and many were repainted. Was there a recall in place in the late 70's for these cars? Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.
