I agree with Keeler, I have removed some types of tint that soap and water and windex wouldnt remove, I have used the goo gone and it works perfectly. It can be found at most hardware stores. |

Just a quick addendum to my original response... Finished removing the remaining window tint from the P-car last night. Three windows, and the total process only took 30 minutes. Here's what worked best for me... 1) Peeled window tint off (used razor blade to get the peel started). 2) Wiped down adhesive on entire window using an automotive adhesive remover / spray made by Goo-Gone using a small old cloth sock. 3) Used razor blade to scrape surface of window and scrape excess adhesive off, while continuously wiping adhesive off razor blade onto another old cloth sock. 4) Used another clean cloth sock soaked with Lacquer Thinner (from ACE Hardware), and thoroughly wiped down glass. This step removed 99% of the adhesive and tacky haze!! Just be careful not to get it on the leather or vinyl door panels. I was mistaken earlier when I said to use Mineral Spirits for this step...my memory is fading with age I guess. 5) Used an old cloth diaper soaked with rubbing alchohol to wipe down the glass, so as to remove any remaining haze, etc. 6) Finished polishing the glass surfaces with window cleaner. Looks good as new!

Mike A friend of mine has a tint shop. He has been in business over ten years. What they do is spray the adhesive with soapy water, then using a brand new razor scrape it off. I have helped him remove this stuff lost of times. How ever DO NOT use a razor on the rear windows that have the defroster lines on the out side. It will scrap off the very thin lines and then the defroster will not work. What you need to use on the rear window is warm soapy water and very fine steel wool. All in all it takes about an hour to completely take off the goo. Happy cleaning. |

You might try a product called Goo Gone. I believe that this is just the kind of thing for which it was intended. I've used it to remove sticker adhesive from glass, and it worked very well. Rod |

Did this recently on a replacement side glass for the P-car...think I used Mineral Spirits on a rag to remove the adhesive, and then followed up with glass cleaner. You can "scrape" away the excess adhesive with a razor blade. |

Windex seems to soften the adhesive also WARM soapy water sometimes does the trick..of course you will need a single edge razor blade and paper towels to ease the pain.......good luck |

This may be a pretty low tech question for the group, but I was wondereing if anyone has had any experience removing the adhesive that holds aftermarket window tinting to the window. I just stripped off the tint film and there is ALOT of adhesive film left behind. I know that water and mild cleaner alone does not work. Has anyone done this, and if so, what did you use to get the adhesive off? |
