Sounds like a plan Peter. I don't think you can go wrong with your approach. Bill

Thank you Bill.
I have decided to go for red Konis. I will probably adjust the valves/shims (inside the shock) and rebound damping before I put them on.

Do you have an email address that you can be reached at...I have some additional questions for you regarding your schock application you installed in your car.

Thanks,
John.

Peter,

I dont know anything about the Bilstein Sport shocks you mention but in addition to the usual F-car suppliers, Koni North America lists:

Application / year / part number
328 GTB, -GTS / 85-3.88 / 82-2290

on their web page:

http://217.160.44.27/KONI_NL/_cars/_special/afram.html

I believe only rebound is adjustable on these shocks and they have to be removed from the car to accomplish this. I dont know if they list a sport shock for the 328 but they do not show one for a 308. The 82-2290s I believe, are rebuildable.

TrueChoice can likely also supply these shocks. Their web page is:

http://www.truechoice.com/products/koni.html

Nick Scianna shows an adjustable suspension kit on his web page:

http://www.nicksforzaferrari.com/forzaferrariwebsite1007.htm

Nick may also be able to supply Konis. Just make sure you are clear what is and isnt adjustable and how it is adjustable.

Some externally adjustable shocks have fixed damping ratios where an increase in rebound damping results in a similar percentage increase in bump damping. OEM shocks are typically 80/20, rebound/bump. One supplier I contacted could supply 50/50 shocks where a single external adjustment affects both in a 50/50 ratio. Ultimately, you have to decide what is best for your application.

I personally elected to go with custom, Koni, 8211, racing shocks with externally and individually adjustable bounce, rebound, and ride height from TrueChoice. I specified stock, shock absorber bushings to better tolerate the potholes, common in Connecticut. I had to do a lot of searching before I found a dust boot that I could modify to work with this application. The dust boot they supplied had an od that was larger than the 2.5 inch id, Eibach springs that were part of the order. Dust boots are usually not used on racing applications but IMHO are a necessity for road applications with only occasional track use in mind.

I hope this helps. Bill

Oops
New info on this case.
Apparently, I do NOT have Konis on my 328 I have Bilstein Sport. Someone must have changed them. The piston is not loose but the floating piston is jamming. Those Bilsteins are not possible to refurbish. I must therefore get new ones.

1: Have anyone heard about OEM Bilstens on 328?
2: OEM is red Konis Special, right?
3: Where can I get Yellow Koni Sport?

The piston in my right rear original Koni Shock is loose and makes funny noises (believe me...).

Anyway, the question now is:
1: Shall I overhaul them
2: Buy new ones
3: Go for different ones

Koni is adjustable in rebound but not in compression.

Bilstein Sport is not adjustable.

People told me that...
Bilstein Sport is firmer on compression (compared to Koni) and quite loose in rebound, which is OK.

I prefer to DRIVE my F and occasionally I take it out on the track but I do not want it to be extremely uncomfortable.

Do any of you have any experience of Spax, Bilstein etc on a 328 or any other comment?

Ciao
Peter
