The oil temp senders are notoriously flaky. In mine, the oil temp would rise steadily to about 240', above which it would rise and fall dramatically... moving way up in the red and back down again... moving 50' in the matter of 5 seconds... not really possible. We ended up using a new temp sender and a new gauge... and that setup produces much more predictable results. Have them first replace the temp sender... fairly easy and a low-cost part. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you may have a gauge problem, which will be a bit more expensive... but they should be able to test that before doing the replace. HTH.

Recently my oil temp started to climb, not into the red but 3/4 to the red, during normal driving. It then drops slightly below 1/2, then back up and down. This sequence continues to repeat. Never had any problem with this before (usually about the 1/4 mark all the time). Water temp and oil pressure remain near normal and car seems to drive fine. I have not brought it to the dealer yet. Any ideas what is wrong ? |
