Just an update, I received the lower ball joints from the guy on ebay on Saturday. The ball joints are brand new as stated and I compared them to my old ones. The only difference is that the new ones use a Nylock instead of a Castle nut and cotter pin. Anyway, I hope to buy the upper ones once he gets them in.

Jeff, the site says that the upper ball joint is 101.00 BP you are saying it is $71.15. Is there a discount we should ask for?

I got a hold of the e-bay guy early last week and I have a hard time with him responding to me. I am pretty leary of this dude. I may just go ahead with Ferrari UK.

I've been waiting about a month for the uppers from the same guy on ebay. He told me to buy them from the dealer because he didn't know when they would arrive. He quoted me $75 each so I think I will wait!

BTW, that's me bidding on the ones on eBAY.

The seller has more coming & I believe he'll sell direct, so you don't have to try to outbid me.
Wish I'd known this b4 I entered my bid.

Apparently they've been showing up off & on on eBAY from various sources. I was wrong in my earlier post. My standing ebay search was for "ball joint" & of course eBAY doesn't do partial matches so it wasn't finding these or the previous ones(DUH).

Jerry,

I just purchased a set of lower ball joints for $115 on ebay early this week. The same guy is currently posting another set priced at $129. In an email to me he said he was getting the upper ones in a few weeks. I haven't received the lower ones yet, but if you want, I'll let you know when they arrive and if everything is up and up. Sounds like he can get quite a few parts for italian cars.

My experience is the LAST thing you want to do is drive until they break and yes they get sloppy, eat tires and compromise handling.
Beats pulling the car apart later. DJ

I have the wheels all torn apart and am rebuilding/replating the brakes and replacing the bushings and thought that it would be a good time to do it. Is it not necessary unless they are broken? Don't they get just plain sloppy before they break? Any way to test their integrity with them off the car as they are? Thanks.

Why do you replace all 4 ball joints? Why not just the broken one? The lifespan of these parts is quite unpredictable and mainly depends on the conditions of the rubber boots.

Jerry,
Steve's callled it right.
I've been sort of price shopping ball joints for about a year for when I install my new bushings.

So far Superformance.co.uk has been the lowest prices.

Also, the $!#$ things never seem to show up on eBAY, so no bargain possibilities there either.

Jerry W. -- First, I'm stunned that as a 308 Owner you don't at least check the FerrariUK website to set a baseline for parts costs -- when projects get up to even the few hundred dollars of parts cost, the shipping costs can be insignificant. (OK -- rant off)

(Assuming this is for your '79) SuperformanceUK seems to have the lowest posted on-line price (~$420 for the set + shipping):
http://www.superformance.co.uk/parts/dino3/suspension2k3.htm
but even the FerrariUK posted prices (~$570 + shipping) seem better than your present Domestic option. The other well-known US F parts supplier I know of (who also graciously posts on-line prices -- and my very sincere thanks to all the companies who do) was only slightly less than the TRutlands price so still not a better option than either of the European sources. Good luck with the sourcing and the project...

The price I got from Rutlands was $181.00/ea x 4 = Holy S*IT!! Any idea who's got them for less? Thanks, Jerry.
