My experience with the egr on my 81 308 and with some previous cars of the late 70's era, is that it robs throttle response. It gives a spongy feel to the response.

It take "dirty air" from the exhaust and injects it back into the incoming air stream. In most cars it does not function at idle or wide open throttle but only at part throttle and only when the engine is warm.

You do not actually have to remove the device to defeat it though. I originally fashioned a small metal plate with properly spaced screw holes and placed it between the egr valve and the small air tube leading out of it to the large air intake, where the two parts bolt together. Later I did remove the plumbing but only to make keeping the engine compartment cleaner easier and to give better access to engine. If you do actually removed this plumbing you would still need this plate but you would put it where the small pipe comes out of the exhaust system instead. In addition to the plate, however you would need some kind of plug to use on the large air intake so that you would not have a large hole there. When I decided to remove mine, I moved the plate that I had already fashioned to the exhaust and got a nut large enough to fit the threads on the large air intake (to replace the threaded coupling which you have removed as part of the egr plumbing) I then had a piece of metal cut round and welded to the end of the nut thereby making a plub out of it.

You will understand what I am talking about if you look at page TAV 16 of the parts manual. If you don't have a parts manual - I can scan the page in.

Sense I live in Florida and don't have to worry about emissions, can I remove my EGR system? Will this harm my car? Will it do anything for it performance wise?
