Hi......... The Ferrari Boxer workshop/repair manual states that the dry weight of a 365 is 1235 kilograms or 2717 pounds; the dry weight of a 512 is 1515 kilograms or 3333 pounds. The Road and Track magazine article of March 1978 lists a curb weight of 3615 pounds for a 512 [EPA/DOT version]. Remember that these vehicles can carry a maximum of 5.7 gallons of water, 30 gallons of gasoline and 3.3 gallons of oil, often not specifically included in the weight charts. Carbed 365BBs do not have the chassis stiffeners required to put american bumpers on the car. The USA bumpers and chassis stiffeneing is reported to add on-the-order-of 400 lbs to the european all-up weight. A dry weight car has no water, oil, fuel, brake fluid, a/c 'freon' in it. This can add 50-75 lbs. |

I'd guess that the 3100 lbs is a slightly optimistic weight of a cat-less, virtually bumper-less, no door reinforcement, no radio, etc. version and that the 3600 lbs weight is in the right ballpark for an injected US version. You could always measure the curb weight of your BB512 and subtract a guess at the weight of the liquids to compare. |

Just wondering. Most info I see show the carbed, pre '81 models with a dry weight of @3100 lbs and the injected '81 up models with a dry weight of @3600 lbs. What gives? If it is true, where does the extra weight come from? |
