I know of a place that rebuilds Konis and says that they can machine another groove in the shock body. I would like provide them with an actual shock so they can give me a definite yes or no if it can be done. Does anyone have a spare shock (good or bad) laying around so that I can show them? I don't want to disassemble my suspension to find out that they can't do it. |

Rob, thanks for the relpy. You saved me the trouble of opening up the suspension to check the configuration of the shock. Regards, John |

Thanks for the info -- but you should still be able to post "after" pics! From Rob's numbers (if I didn't make a error) he dropped the front ~25mm and the rear ~15mm (measured at the respecitve wheel arches). |

I have to appologize and say that I do not. I was working a tight schedule to get the car done and just did not have my camera at the shop when the install took place. I installed a perch with an L1 measurment of 23.00mm in the front and made perches that calculated to a 25mm drop in the rear. When I went to install those, on full droop they hit the suspension arm so I installed a 0.300" (sorry for the different types of measurments) spacer in the rear perch to effectivly 'shrink' it. I now have 1mm clearance between the arm and perch on full droop. With the suspension loaded, this gap is of course much larger but I wanted to eliminate the chances of it ever touching. You know on those rare occasions when I have to jump a draw bridge or something. |

Rob -- Do you have before/after pics? How much lower (measured at the wheel arch) did you go front/rear? |

I just finished the lowering of my 308 last week in both the front and rear using the Steve M. lowering perch design. I do not think that it is possible to machine the a grove in the shock body. The factory grove is pressed in and I do not believe that there is enough meat on the shock body in which to make your groove. Also be aware that the ratio of drop at the shock vs. drop at the wheel arch is different in the front and rear. I learned from experience that there is only so low you can go on the rear before the spring perch touches the lower suspension arm. |

While doing research about lowering the 308, I ran across a post of someone who was going to achieve lowering by machining a grove in koni shock body to relocate the spring perches. If it can be done, this seems like a low cost alternative if the existing shocks are o.k. Has anyone attempted this? Any opinions on this procedure? |
