Changed my gearbox oil to Repsol 75-90 full synthetic and it has transformed my gear selection and general smoothness. This stuff is made in Spain and used by professional rally teams and also GP motorcycles. |

Mine never grinds if I shift slow, I changed to 75W-90 Amsoil and it works good, gonna try same weight Mobil 1 next time, a lot of people seem to like that. |

In an earlier thread I picked up a tip about bypassing 2nd and shifting into 3rd until warm. I found it really works and don't use second until the water temp is close to normal and the oil temp is moving off the peg. No graunchy noises....I hate those, they sound like$$$$. |

I spoke to Lowell Brown, Director of FCA-NW, awhile ago. He owns a 330 GT 2+2, as well as a 308 QV. He said the 330 needs at least 20min warm-up before it'll drive without complaint... |

Greg, Are you letting her warm up long enough? If not, let her have her time to warm up, and if that doesn't do it then switch to Mobil 1 Syn gear oil like Magoo said, it's some good stuff. Mine shifts a lot smoother now since I switched. After I let her warm up, my 308 never grinds in 2nd,... but tonight I had to run to the store really fast and I thought I'd take the Ferrari. Well I didn't let her warm properly and of course she grinded a little in 2nd. Well, I learned my lesson, "no matter how good the lube, these cars still need a little warm and stretch out before getting on their way. Scott |

I have had a very slight grinding, unless shifting slowly, in eight Ferrari's...My 320 has it as well...Years ago you couln't get into second on a cold engine, until they changed gear oil. |

Greg, The adjustment proceedure is in your owners manual pg. 88 in 79 308 GTS owners manual. The clutch arm and adjustment rod are under the left side, drivers side, of the car at the bellhousing area. When is the last time you changed your gear oil? Also it seems to be the consensus of opinion on F.C. that Mobil 1 synthetic cures a lot of cranky shifting problems in the Ferrari gear box. I for one can tell you that my car shifts much smoother with Mobil One synthetic. If you haven't used Mobil 1 synthetic maybe you should try it. Gear oil change instructions are on pg. 89 of the 79 308 GTS owners manual. Also if and when you adjust your clutch be sure you have the proper free travel at the pedal before reaching the pressure point of contact. This is also covered on page 88 of the OM. |

My 308 has a slight grind sometimes in 2nd gear. It doesn't do it in any other gear. It does do it in 2nd every now and then. Does it sound like a clutch adjustment? Is 2nd gear weaker on the 308's than the other gears? Where is the clutch adjustment? Thanks. |
