Jeff, You are to be commended for your efforts. I love seeing the progress, and enjoy the fact that another Ferrari is "saved" from further neglect. Keep up the good work you do! Dave |

Yep....I hate winters, and this last one was a dandy lasting 6 solid months! We have a big car show on mother's day weekend, nearly two thousand cars of all types, and even one or two exotics. Well now there's gonna be another one-mine! I can't stand the thought of showing my Ferrari unless it is at it's best. I feel I am the ambassador of the marque around here, so I must make a good impression. All my past cars, like muscle cars and then vettes have been very nice, with the last two ('63 coupe and a '91 ZR-1) being spot on perfect. So I've set a standard that is hard for me to break. As for the amount of time, I am divorced a bit over two years now and this car has been the best therapy I could have asked for. There are many 15 hour days in this car. And many more to go, it looks great in the pics, but lots of little things to tend to yet that you guys can't see. Oh....the floor was in decent shape until I started using all kinds of chemicals to strip off that syrup-like undercoating. Then it's like a bad skin rash all over the place! Oh well. Post some pics when you get yours tiled. I'd love to see it. |

Jeff - I just can't believe that you knocked this off in one winter season! A lot of work. So that's what you guys do up north where you can't drive them all year round....(I'm in FL) btw-have the same problem with my floor paint...gonna tile it this month... Again, an amazing amount of beautiful work

ROTFLMAO !!! Thanks Frank....I can tell that you "truly understand"...and to Glenn...yes I repainted the cam convers. I used a dark red Ford color, but in the pics it's very bright. I debated on using the crinkle paint from a dealer...but after reading the many challenges others had, I simply masked everything off and "fogged" on the red paint. It still has a testure, but also more gloss than stock. It's kind of satin, not shiny, not flat. I was originally going to pull of the cam covers for powder coating, but my budget is about empty. So this will have to do until next winter. The masking and painting took hours because you can only get a direct shot from certain angles. It was very difficult. But in person it looks quite good. Where I live I have probably the only Ferrari for a 75 mile radius, so who's gonna know what is correct and what isn't? If you had seem my car when I got it you would have been shocked by it's cosmetic condition. I spent 3 weeks cleaning/scraping the frame alone, then painted it semi-gloss black. Looks consistent with the rest of the car's frame now. I think the previouis owner thought he was doing good by undercoating the car year after year. It was an awful bloody mess! Thanks again everybody for the nice things your saying. I really do appreciate it. |

I agree Jeff about not wanting to be afraid to drive your car. My Boxer is nor concours ready either. I had the entire exhaust system cermanic coated which would kill me in a concours. But, I like the way it looks better than stock. |

You guys are so supportive...it gives me the warm fuzzies inside! Frank is correct...I have gone down the concours points ladder, but it was my choice. I've done the concours thing with a '63 stingray, it took me 4 years to achieve perfection, then I was afraid to drive it. I plan on driving this TR as much as reason and mother-nature will allow. The changes I've made are subtle, and can be put back to original without too much trouble. The concours thing is great, but where do you go from the top? I appreciate these types of cars, as I have done it too and understand the unholy amount work it takes. But my TR needed tons of stuff when I bought it, so why not improve things a bit. If it was a low mile near perfect car...I would keep it that way. Maybe my next Ferrari will be, I don't know yet. But I'm gonna enjoy the heck out of this one. Lastly, I feel so lucky to have a Ferrari and to belong to this forum. In my small town I have zero support for parts and know-how. People ask me "where did you learn to work on a Ferrari?" And I always say the manuals help, but fchat is tops! I would not have this car if not for this board! I'll stop now before I get to mushy! |

Ken, I did drive the TR once in a while when I owned it. About 1,500 miles per year. I have the judge's scorecard to prove the 100 points. Once I put the Tubi on, it dropped to 98 points. Oh well! The sound of the Tubi was worth the 2 points. |

A Ferrari with all the modifications made by Jeff will be better off left out of any concours as the owner wil just get his feelings hurt or get mad. |

Paul: How does one receive 100 points? That would mean that your car is never driven and that you have spent a lot of money keeping the car perfect. The most I have seen any driver get is 98 points. Do you drive the TR? Ken P.S. Congrats on getting 100 points. That is not easy. |

Jeff, I understand your feelings about this project. It is a labor of love. I had a 1989 TR. It was a 100 point car judged at Cavallino a few years in a row. Alot of work, but worth the effort. Keep up the good work. Congratulations. |

I was not aware that the TR came with red calipers ? I do not recall the ones on my ex-1986 TR being red. |

Hey There Henryk...the prancing horse emblem is actually gold, it came that way when I bought the car. From the factory I believe that they were all black. It's funny you should mention the emblem...I don't really like it in gold. So I ordered a new chrome one. I priced around and ended up ordering it from kitcaraccessories. Kinda strange buying genuine Ferrari parts from a "replica" company-very ironic. It should arrive this wednesday and will really set the rear off I think. And Thanks Again for all the compliments on the car. It makes me feel good about all the work, and nice to know it's truly understood and appreciated. |

Jeff: Car looks great!!!! Almost a shame to drive it, and get it dirty....HAHA!!!!! I notice that your prancing horse, in the rear, is chrome.....mine is black......I have an 88.5 TR. Did you chrome it, or is it the way it came? |

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback. I may gripe about all the work, but it's worth it in the long run. Here are a few more exterior pics as requested by Ken Ross. Please excuse the messy shop. Still lots of knooks and crannies to detail. And the air cleaner assembly needs redone-which I will do this week sometime when my hands heal up a bit.

Jeff, Your TR is really looking alsome! The hard work is paying off for you. What type of paint did you use for your rear calipers? They look great. I bought a high voltage decal for the heat insulator on mine off eBay for $4.00 last summer and it looks perfect. The guy told me he had several decals for Ferrari's. He is selling the over-flow decal on eBay now here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6769&item=2413790944 Joe |

Jeff: The car looks better than new. I can tell how much time you have invested. Do you have any pics of interior or exterior of the car? Try calling Brian Keegan at Ferrari Parts Exchange (www.ferraripartsexchange.com) for the stickers and decals you need. |

For those interested...my first Ferrari is a lipstick-pig car that was rode hard and put away wet. Mechanically the car is great, but it was neglected by it's previous owner-badly. So I've spent all winter working on it, fixing little things, replacing odds and ends. After hours of scrubbing with bloody fingers it's looking much better. Digging out the remnants of the old plug wire retainers was a real bitc#, and installing new ones was not easy either as space is tight. Those are plated "extra deep" acorn nuts on the cam covers, they really look good.
You may recall I painted and baked my exhaust with ceramic-type paint. Well it's installed now and I think it looks very good.
Here are my restored wheels...the ones I spent 6 days stripping. I still have chemical burns on my wrists and arms from the stripper. This was a nasty rotten project best left up to proffessionals only.
I've "restored" my overflow tank, but still need to get a new sticker/decal applied. Anyone know of a source for these?
My air cleaner heat shield has some dents and gouges, I have no idea how to fix it yet. So I went and made a new heat shield out of stainless plate. Looks okay, but it's too bulky will not make a very good heat insulator. The other is perforated stainless sheet that I'm going to put over the top of my banged up shield, so I get the benefits of the original shield with a high-tech appearance of the stainless. I like it but know that purists will cringe at the thought.
Please feel free to express your opinions, good or bad. At times I thought I'd never get this done....but it's getting close...at last!
