Folks, Thanks I had some fun in reading your last comments and suggestions. I am 100% sure that it's water and not clutch/brake fluid. The sidewalls inside the trunk are perfectly dry which tend to confirm that the water is travelling from the interior floor to the trunk and not the opposite. I will do some more research and keep you posted. BTW does any of you know where to find a detailed view (drawings) of the front of the car. I have no clue if the inner side of the floor under the pedals is communicating with the bottom of the trunk. In the meantime I am no more singing...in the rain. |

Old Lotus Joke: New Owner: Why are there holes in the floor? I should plug them so water doesn't get in. Expert: No, don't do that. The holes are so water can get OUT.

Jeff LMAO This is a good one. Ok assuming that water is transferring from the trunk to the interior floor. Also assuming washer union is OK, washer reservoir full, and its not brake/clutch fluid. The only other thing I can think of is how about the rubber seal around the bonnet? If water gets in it will not feed through any type of drain. Get a shop vac and dry the trunk thoroughly. Hose her hard with waterpop the hood and see if you have any water. Check the front of the bonnet (where she opens at the hinges) because the seals are hard to see when opened. Also what about the sidewalls inside the trunk? Were you able to feel a trail of water to trace the leak (behind the tool kit, etc) or were the sides dry? And are you 100% sure thats not clutch fluid in the trunk? I just re-read your first post about just having the clutch changed... Btw I just had a 100 gal salt tank let go in the living roomalso had wet feethad to laugh when I was this thread

Jeff, I was indeed first suspecting the washers but the water did not smell the detergent that I am putting in the washer can. I was also thinking to the airco and the condensation but I did not use the airco at that time. The windscreen seal seems allright...I am a bit puzzled. |

Phil: How about the possibility that the window washer union is leaking or disconnected, as discussed in a recent thread here? Were you using the washers while driving in the rain? You could probably check for this pretty easily, just by operating the washers and looking under the dash for signs of drips (or a flood!). |

on my 308, I used to have water splash in from foot well area when I hit a sizable puddle.. sealed up everything in sight but never could fix it--think it may have been coming thru the air vents |

Jeff, I just made the test. Bad luck the water is running directly on the ground. Any other suggestion ? Thanks. |

Phil: Water hardly ever comes up from below, unless you are parked in a lake. It might be that the drains for the fresh air intake are plugged. Look inside the air intake box in the trunk, the one that encloses the heater fan. In the upper front corners are two openings. If you pour a small amount of water into these, it should run directly onto the ground. If it doesn't, then the water may be backing up and entering the cabin around the fan housing. Worth a look? |

Early this week I picked up my 348 after a clutch change. It was raining a lot but was so happy to get it back that I drove it for two hours in heavy rain. This morning it was time for some cleaning and I noticed that the floor mat, just under the pedals, was soaked up. Same problem in the front lid just under the tool box. Does someone already experience the same problem ? I had a quick look underneath but did not notice anything stange, all rubber plugs were in place. Any clue ? |
