Thanks for all the info!!! You guys are lifesavers. I'm going to change the clutch disc, pressure plate, and bearings while its all apart. I checked the appropriate web sites for the info! Thanks again! Skip |

It sounds more like a loose clutch disc cushion spring rather than a pilot bearing. |

Could very well be the pilot bearing, or if its a Press. Plate bolt(s) that is loose, I wouldn't wait for it to come off and start bouncing around in there. Remove the inspection cover as Magoo said and check. |

Walter, To confirm what Paul said I looked up clutch replacement the other day for someone at www.expensivecar.com . There as Paul says you have great pics and instructions on R&R clutch. Be sure you use the WWW. when pulling up the site it seems a little contrary otherwise. You may want to remove that plate under the oil filter and check the pressure plate to flywheel bolts first. |

The good news is that the clutch is very easy to get to and does not require the removal of the engine or transmission. You have to remove the wheel and the fiberglass fender shields. There is a number of bolts that have to be removed ro take off the bell housing. There is a set of instructions on : http://home.att.net/~ferrari/trans3.htm There should also be instructions (with pictures)in the the old Expensivecar.com archives on this site. |

Could be a loose bolt where the pressure plate bolts to the flywheel. Which you can inspect by removing the plate under the oil filter. Could be the pilot bearing in the flywheel. Or something else in the clutch train. Just some suggestions. |

Just started hearing a distinct knocking noise at idle on an 83 308 QV. Using a mechanics stethescope I've narrowed it down to the clutch/flywheel area. Also, when you depress the clutch pedal, the noise basically goes away. Engine runs and feels fine during normal driving. Any ideas or suggestions as to common problems before we take to digging into it? Skip |
