Well, whenever I am in a drive with several other members, my speedo is within 2 mph of everyone else (even a friend with a new Mercedes C32 with fancy onboard computer) so I would say that my tach is indeed still reading a bit low. I will check my connections again, and perhaps clean a few more....obviously this Stabilant 22A is working...I just have to keep at it and find all the connections.... |

Dave, according to the '87 User manual for a 328 US version, the following aplies: Speeds at 1000RPM: 1st 5.4 mph 8.6 kph 2nd 7.8 mph 12.5 kph 3rd 10.8 mph 17.3 kph 4th 15.2 mph 24.5 kph 5th 19.8 mph 31.9 kph At 5000RPM the figures will be 1st 27 mph 43.0 kph 2nd 39 mph 62.5 kph 3rd 54 mph 86.5 kph 4th 76 mph 122.5 kph 5th 99 mph 159.5 kph These figures are valid for the US version (european cars have a longer gearing), with the specified wheel/tire setup (225/50 VR16 at the rear). Check out the actual RPM with a handheld electronic counter. Your speedo seems to be a little on the high side if your RPM's are correct.

Dave, I don't know about 1st and 2nd, but 60MPH in 5th will be just about 3K. However, you need to check where true 60mph on your speedo is. Mine reads about 65 at true 60. This is pretty typical. Just got my tach back and it's fixed so far. check your owners manual which I believe lists mph/1000K in each gear. (5th is like 19.8 mph/1K or something) Dave |

Trying to figure out if I fixed my tach or not. It was reading way low, and cleaned all the connectors to the coil, TDC sensor, rpm sensor and to the Marelli box, no change, then took apart again and applied Stabilant 22a, and now it seems to be reading correctly. At 5k rpm I get 32 mph in 1st and 48 in second....is this correct? Or is my tach still reading low... |
