Vincent, I don't think that's real carbon fiber. If it is, it's just a covering. We have just finished ser# 003 shifter console (the real deal, not a covering) - pics will be up when the clear-coat is polished - first of the week. We're (Valence USA) the fabricators Byron is referring to.

Guys...(sorry Jim for hijacking this)... but I am currently waiting for some CF console pieces to be fabricated and prototyped for my 348 CH... (instrument cluster, center console, ashtray, front speciale lip) they will be available in the next few weeks... the parts will also be available for all F-Chatters... stay tuned.

It was in the car when I bought it. I probably would have taken the center console and had a piece copied out of al. and had it anodized black.

Heiko with hg parts provides cf replacement door sills but I'm not sure if he carries consoles.

My center console has been replaced by a carbon fiber insert. Not for purists, but it looks sharp and not out of place as mine is blk/blk. And best of all no sludge.

Jim,
Here are some instructions in addition to John's:
1. Remove 2 ashtray inserts
2. Remove ashtray cover (need to pinch in both plastic clips slightly and it will slide out)
3. 2 screws hold the ashtray in (philips)
4. Unscrew shift knob
5. Unscrew 2 screws holding in shift gate
6. After center console comes out, you can detach the door lock / gas door release switch
7. instrument cluster should slide down...
8. When pulling it up it will have several attachments in the rear -- the A/C controls are a bit tricky... you will need to push out a black clip then you can pull the ECU off. When I removed mine, I just needed to get behind it, so I didn't disconnect the gauges... but I gather that is pretty straightforward...

You should be able to do all that in about 15-20min. Don't lose any screws... it will be hard to find exact matches!!

Btw... there are other threads about how to clean the console... some have used denatured alcohol and repainting... I used hot water, handsoap, and a scouring pad and a lot of patience... worked just fine!

good luck!

I just did this same thing, start from the back in the ash tray and start by removing the screws and lifting it out. Next remove the shifter gate and start just pulling the pieces up. Some things take some effort to pull out but overall most should lift out and you will just have to disconnect all the cables connected to the gauges.

Hello Group,
Does anyone know how to remove the central console from a 348? I'm pledged by the rubberized material disintegrating and need to tweak the central console (shifter, lock buttons, fuel gauge, etc. are located).

Thanks for the help,
Jim Hilton
