Found the problem!, it was the plug that connects the ECU under the rear fender to the main ECU. There was a break in the wire close to the rubber covered plug, managed to make a reasonable repair, all seems well for now.

Hmmmm, maybe you're right, Barry. I went to a friend's '94 Euro 512TR and disconnected his thermocouple ECU's (the 4 wire connector) and the lights (MIL's) came on. On mine ('94 US model)they went off and have stayed off for 2K+ miles. Very curious...

I tried disconnecting the thermocouple units, but that caused the slowdown lights to come on instantly, maybe Euro cars are wired slightly different, am about to try swapping the two small ECU units under the rear fender, to see if the problem switches to the 7-12 bank, thanks for all your help. Incidently, its worth trying to gut the standard muffler, and replacing all the baffles with direct pipes, it wasn't to big a job, cost very little and sounds great

Barry:
since you no longer have cats, you no longer need the thermocouples. Disconnect the thermocouple ECU's where they plug into the main wiring harness. Tie the loose ends back out of sight.
Check the O2 sensor and make sure it is tight. Disconnect the O2 sensor wire where it also connects to the main harness, clean the connection with contact cleaner and apply some dielectric grease. See if that helps. It took care of the same problem on my 512TR.

The thermocouples "are" just to measure the temps of the cats. If you switched control units with no change, it sounds like the cable itself to that side may be bad, pinched, cut, etc.

I have a UK spec 512 TR, recently I replaced the cats with Tubi test pipes and opened up the stock muffler and modified it by removing most of the baffles and using perforated stainless steel tubes directly from inlet to outlet if you follow!
On start up the car sounded great and It felt much more responsive, but heres the problem, I keep getting the 'slow down 1-6 cyl' light coming on. both the oxy sensors and thermocouples have been connected to the Tubi pipes, I've tried reversing the thermo' probes to see if one was faulty, but it made no difference, according to my handbook for the 512TR these warning lights are only to do with the cats, is this correct?? could the oxy sensors also affect these lights? I didnt have any problem before, so I have to assume its something I've done!! any advice would be very helpful, I dont want to start changing parts until I hit on the cause, prices for these little electronic bits are horrendous over here!!
many thanks,Barry Castle, Hertfordshire,UK
