Hi Group,
Not sure if you're interested, but since you're talking EPROM's there is a group in FL called "Total Performance Software" (352.628.2834) they have EPROM's for various Ferraris. The EPROM set for the 348 is $495.They mention up to 22Hp gain and possibly more with this firmware upgrade? They have a 7 day money back policy.
Good luck,
Jim Hilton

Jim, Billy Bob,

I do have the challenge exhaust on my car.
Therefore I expect to see some hp gains with
the new chip. I did run my car with my friends
spider ECU's when he got them, and noticed a
"seat of the pants" improvement... not sure
if that's possible with 15hp ...

BillyBob,

Having not seen the new one, I can't tell you.

If someone has access to one, it's a rather simple deal to pull the EPROM and do an "Auto Identify" on a decent burner.

JIm said,

"The 348 Spyder (Bosch Hardware P/N 0 261 200 489) uses a 27C256".

FWIW the "sypder" ecu is no longer available via Ferrari. The newest updated ECU made after 12/01 has all the same stuff plus???? is number 0261203327. So Jim does the new one use the same EPROM raw chip so you can rip a copy? That is the one Reiner really needs.

>>>The chip was designed to work with the different exhaust. If you don't put the Spyder exhaust in, I wonder if you will get any more HP.

That is exactly what I meant....

Reiner:

The 348 Spyder had 12 moer HP than your car. The exhaust was the difference. The chip was designed to work with the different exhaust. If you don't put the Spyder exhaust in, I wonder if you will get any more HP. I'd try a dyno on this change to see if there is any difference.

One of the best and reasonable eprom/eeprom etc., programmer is the Pocket Programmer II from Transtronics.
http://xtronics.com/memory/EPROM.htm
$ 150.00 and very nice people to deal with that stand behind their product.
Works in DOS or Windows.

Everyone,

thanks very much for your feedback and info, esp. Jim Conforti and Noelrp. Once again this thread shows why Ferrarichat is so awesome!!!

BTW, a friend of mine did plug the spider
chips into his 348 TS, and the car runs fine.

Needham Electronics has a burner that plugs to the parallel port of your PC for $220. I've used them in the past when video games were ROM based.

Reiner,

are you sure that there are ABSOLUTELY NO hardware differences (engine-wise) between the car that you are taking the chip data from and the one that you want to put the chip in?

The slightest difference will render the chip-change worthless....

A device called an EPROM Programmer.

Some are standalone, some run from a PC.

They run from about $300 to $you don't wanna know.

(enough to buy an F Car!)

Depends on what chips they can do/etc.

You can get a really nice one for under $1000.

For those that have a PC with an open Parallel port, for $333 + shipping, let me suggest:

http://www.conitec.net/hardware/epages/galep4.htm

The Conitec Galep4 is a nice reasonable unit, I have one I put in my briefcase w/ my laptop.

No financial interest in Conitec BTW, I just think that for the price, their product is unbeatable!
Even when compared to my programmers in the $1000-20,000 range, the Galep4 rocks!

Ok, sound reasonable.

How do you actually copy it?

thanks,

The 348 Spyder (Bosch Hardware P/N 0 261 200 489) uses a 27C256

When replacing the EPROM in any Automotive Controller let me give you some pointers:

1) Use a chip of 100ns or better, I like the 70/80ns chips.

2) Make sure the Source and Donor have the same Bosch Hardware Part # (that 10 digit # above)

3) Static protection

4) Did I mention Static protection

5) There's always Static protection

;)

EPROMS are getting very hard to find, at least GOOD ones, let me suggest one available with fast
enough speed and the proper (industrial) temperature rating, that's still purchaseable.

ATMEL AT27C256R-90PI

http://www.avnetmarshall.com/dynamic/pdpage?p=AT27C256R-90PI&m=atl

This is an OTP, one time programmable (no window/non-erasable) eprom. about $1 ea.

Note that if the hardware # doesn't match you'll likely do something untoward by "swapping" chips.

Vincent,

I'd like to copy the 94 spider ECU chip that
sits on the Bosch Motronic 2.7 board in the
348 spider, and replace my old '91 eprom with
it. This upgrade, together with the spider exhaust should give a significant horsepower
boost to older 348's. I also believe that the new chips will lead to smoother running cars.

Reiner,

Can you explain a little more what you are planning to do? Are you making a new chip yourself?

thanks,

Never mind! Doing a little bit of homework,
I was able to answer my own question!! (Archives...). In case you're interested:
The answer is 27256/27512!

I'll check EBAY or some other source for a EPROM copy device, hopefully PC based, looking forward to that extra spider hp!!!

Who knows what type of EPROMs are used in the
Bosch Motronic 2.7 Units for the 348? I'd like to burn some to upgrade to the Spider ECUs (more horsepower) and I'd like to avoid bending the cheap box lids of the Motronic box back and forth too often...

Thanks for any info you might have!
