John -

After you follow my procedure below, it will not auto-lock...that's what I do when I leave it in the garage at home, etc.

But - the next time you leave the car and lock it with the remote - it will go back to auto-lock again, unless you do the "double door open" one time...after double door open, it goes back to kill engine only..

Hard to understand in the begining, but once you get use to it, it's really a great system.

Hey,

Thanks so much for all the replies. It's funny. Now that I make a concerted effort to figure out what the deal with my alarm is... it stops auto locking the doors.

I'm beginning to think there is some type of "preferred memory setting" as Frank mentioned that I may be activating and deactivating randomly. I need to spend time playing around with it, and I'll post what I find -assuming I find anything LOL-. Thanks Jason for your observation about the doors autolocking after a disarm and no doors opened situation. I think that may explain some of my "lock out" instances.

Jason /Noel -

There seems to be laws in Euro about alarms that chirp when set...Because in my owners manual for the alarm it says that it will chirp when set (in those countries where permitted)...can't understand what that is about, but operationally they should work the same with the exception of the chirp...

Maybe someone from across the pond can chime in and enlighten all of us on this...

The reason why I think that the brain is market specific, my alarm doesn't chirp when you activate/deactivate the alarm.....I asked the dealer to switch on this feature. They contacted Ferrari UK, who said that certain markets have different alarm 'brains', and this feature wasn't available on my alarm ECU.....Who knows....maybe they just wanted to sell a new alarm

John -

Get in the car, start it, shut if off, exit the car. Now, open and shut the door again. The doors should not auto-lock.

Sounds just like the 355, where the alarm has a "memory" to your preferred last setting.

2 tier auto settings...

1. engine kill only or
2. engine kill + auto lock + siren

The little owners manual that comes with the car is poorly written and I had to read it 5 times before I got the drift.

Notice Jason's thread about opening the door..

Anyway, try what I said and see if that resolves the problem - if so, many here can explain how it works..

My 360 doesn't do that either unless I activate the alarm. It also came from Germany. I would be surprised if the alarm was "market specific".

John,

My F250 (that's ford) used to do the same thing before I rolled it. The alarm has different modes, of which one is self locking. It can be turned off, usually there is a button (neatly hidden away) that if you press in the right combination will deactivate that function. You probably need to find the manufacturer of the alarm for the right sequence or code.

I found this out, when stopped by a friend's place to show my new truck I returned to find my keys locked inside.

I have a German 360, my alarm doesn't do that. The only time the doors auto lock is if you deactivate the alarm, but don't open a door...After two mins, the doors relock. I do have the original Euro manual, and it tells you about alarm features based on certain markets....I'll have a look, and tell you which market has auto-lock (I believe it's Belgium)....
Don't think you'll be able to change this.....I think the alarm 'brain' is market specific.

Can't answer your question about German 360's, but I work on a ton of cars with all kinds of different alarms...here's a really neat trick, that saves destroying any pieces of the car to get back in...when for some unknown reason the key can't simply be takin with upon exiting the vehicle, then simply roll a window down...works like a charm.

Hi,

I have a 2001 360 spyder Euro Conversion (believe the car originated from Germany). When I exit the car, in about 1 minute, the alarm auto activates and locks the doors. I have been told by another 360 owner that his car does not do that.

I'm curious if it has something to do with the car being meant for Germany originally... Or maybe it was an alarm setting that a previous owner turned on. Regardless, is there any way to turn off the automatic door locking feature?

because of the doors locking unexpectedly, I've had the door levers "broken" twice at the detailers. You know, the well known problem where if you try to open a locked door really hard, some spring pops out. It's more an annoyance than anything else, but I'm tired of getting annoyed and don't really need the central door locking with alarm auto-activation feature. Thanks---- John
