Yea here in CA - as I recall it's 2 stage - idle (1k rpm) and 2,500ish and the smog tech took longer to examine my "smog equipment" than to actually do the test. I WISH I could say he was just admiring the car, but he was trying to see my smog pump (without a mirror), which on the TR is on the front of the engine and on the bottom of the accessory belt...damn near impossible to see without lifting the car or a good mirror. Which I still have on, just no pre-cats, cats or stock mufflers...oh well maybe I'll find a way. -Ben |

Here is Ga. the test is done at 1500 rpm I believe. You may be able to pass the visual because most of the emission station workers are not familiar with Ferraris and won't know where to look. |

Frank Parker - How low do you mean with low RPM? Not that I'd pass a visual, but like under 3k RPM? -Ben |

I passed the Georgia emissions test with bypass pipes instead of cats on my 1986 TR. The test is done at low rpm and Ferrari engines are green in that range. |

Emissions test? What's that??? - Seriously, we don't have any where I live. Florida law allows counties to test or not. Perhaps every owner should register in this area ... hehehe Seems that Arkansas doesn't have any testing either. Anyone know of anywhere else? |

When I went to get my 348 emissions checked, I ran the car real hard prior to it. When I got there, the guys where too scared to put the car on the dyno. They stamped my certificate and said to come back in 2 years. This was in Waldorf MD. |

When I went for mine (when I had to stock exhuast system on it - not a roller test tho) I was rather scared to see what the results would be. I made sure to drive for a good HOUR before the test to get everything nice and HOT. Well seems that Ferrari Engines are desgined to me some of the most efficient internal combustion gas powered machines ever built. I had NO emmisions whatsoever. If you want the specifics I can look them up - I have that saved (who doesn't?), but I really could have qualified for "Ultra Low (or even Zero) emmisions vechile" status. The testing guy couldn't believe it either. -Ben |

They guy was amazed as the results were so low compared with the allowed output. The new test in NJ is so tough, and the car has to be on rollers at 14.5 - 15.5 MPH for 2 min. The guy had a hard time, but got it to sit at 15mph. But now that I am good for two years I would love to change the pipes / cats. |
