Verelle, I didn't know that some dino based lubes can cause plastics to become brittle. The reason I used the synthetic grease was I notice a big difference in window speed between warm and cold days before changing the lubricant. From my past experience nothing comes close to synthetics when it comes to viscosity stability over a large temperature range. It sounds like I should re-do the window lifts using white lithium grease. I'm not looking forward to that. Thanks for the heads up. Rob |

Rob, I don't know about Mobil1 or other synthetic lubes, but some dino based lubes cause plastics to become brittle. The recommended lube for this application is white lithium grease. HAH!! The most common descriptions for what people find when they disassemble the window drive is either 'almost cured epoxy' or 'cosmolene'. Taffy also fits and this is the 1st time I've heard it used!! Search the archives for my (long & detailed) post on the window drive service procedure. |

I second Verell's advice. About 6 months ago I disassembled both driver and passenger window drive mechanisms and found a green substance that had the consistency of taffy. After cleaning I re-lubed with Mobil 1 Synthetic grease. Be sure to also disassemble, clean, and lube all of the plastic rollers that the cable goes around. If memory serves there are four (4) rollers per door. I also pinched the female end of the window motor wire connectors, to ensure a good contact, and re-assembled with grease as well. My windows are now just slightly slower than the windows on my Mitsubishi, and did not require an additional relay. I used the diagram out of the parts manual as a reference for re-assembling the window lift cables. |

Philp, Only do the rewiring AFTER you've done the window drive mechanism clean & lube procedure. Otherwise you're risking smoking your motors. You may also find you don't need to do the relay & rewiring.
