Frank -- check the OM "setting data" for each at the Owner's Site as JRV suggested:

page 61 365 GT4BB Berlinetta Boxer 1973

page 69 512 BB 1980

Quite a few differences listed -- of the 15 or so items about 70% are different (34 vs 32 mm chokes, 3 vs 4 progression holes, etc.)

I just did alot of research on the 42dcnf. Same deisgn as the 40dcnf. The 42dcnf 5, 42dcnf 9, 42dcnf 2 all have different progression locations. From what I was told, they are not interchangable due to tunning problems, even though physicaly they are the same. I would assume the same could be true with the 40dcnf. As long as the progession holes are the same I believe everything else can be changed to make it work.

There is really no way of knowing any/all the differences without a study of both types side by side and both sets of specs in front of you. But generally the idle air bleeds and/or size & number of progression ports are different just like the 40DCN 17's/18's for 6 carb 2 cam 275's vs 6 carb 4 cam 275's vs the 40 DCN 19's & 21's on the Daytonas...there were minor differences but nothing that prevented them from being interchangable.

As far as adjustment specs...each carb/engine config has it's own set of specs, but looking in the 365/512 manuel it gives no specs for the 512....so evidently they are by & large the same (or only spelled out in the owners handbook?), however the 512's do have the electric idle shut-off solenoid, so maybe that's the body number difference.

Hi.......

Have a question about Weber carburetors on Boxers. The Ferrari workshop/repair manual states that the 365 Boxers carry Weber 40IF3C/1-2-3-4 carburetors, while the 512 Boxers carry 40IF3C/9-10-11-12 carburetors. What is the difference ?? The manual only lists "adjustment data" [venturi, emulsion tube, progression hole sizes, et cetera] for the 365 carburetors, along with a 365-specific modification to introduce "breather holes". Do these "adjustment data" apply to the 512 carburetors as well, or are there differences due to the greater displacement ??
