Steve...you are right...it was the connections at the temp. switch on the left side radiator. I'm sooooooooooo happy!!!! The first thing I did was to check the fans using my battery charger as a power source. Well, they checked out okay. So then I checked all the fuse panel connections and they looked and "felt" great. Either my fuse panel has been replaced or it is in "like new" condition. So finally I removed the front panel of the driver's side rear wheel inner fender area and checked the wires going to the radiator temp. sensor/switch. They were badly pinched on a frame rail...fixed it. Then onto the switch itself, it looked pretty grubby. Cleaned the terminals and crimped them so they are tighter. I then started the car and let it idle. Presto...at around 190 I heard the glorious music of cooling fans coming to life. I let the car idle for a bit, and the temps would not go above 190. I am sooooo happy!! And I'm also impressed at the amount of air those fans can move. Where can I buy a new temp. sensor/switch? I'd like to have a fresh one around since so much depends on it working properly. And lastly....it's ferrarichat.com to my rescue! If I was a woman I'd.....well never mind about that. Thanks Guys! |

Jeff -- At idle my TR runs up to about ~195 deg F where the coolant fans come on and will pull it back down to ~180 deg F. First thing to check is that BOTH coolant fans are actually coming on. Also check the "j" connector to see if the water fan output connections are frazzled:

My TR is acting up a bit. Cruising down the road above 30 is no problem. But below this the temps climb...up to 215 or 220. I'm not comfortable with that at all. I "sometimes" hear the fans kick on but am not sure if they are consistent. Is it common for the temp. sensor and/or relay to be intermittently bad? Is is also possible to have air in the system? My car was apart most of the winter and I have not bled the system. I guess I'm answering my own questions huh? Well, I'm gonna do some investigating. Any advice is appreciated. |
