I just had my inside door handles done. They were power coated flat black. I don't know what it cost because I had it done with my 30k but I think they look just fine. I would think the power coating would hold up longer IMO

Spent all evening working on it. Not very difficult, just have to figure how to get this stuff off my fingers now. Thanks!

There are some tabs along the edges of the backside of the upper (a/c) console panel that look like they're supposed to clip into something behind the panel. We're making these out of carbon fiber, too, and I want to make sure that our parts fit correctly. Are these tabs necessary? What are they for? Who is KZ Automotive?

Martin, is there any particular paint that you recommend using on the plastic. I was also considering calling the leatherique people to see if their dye would adhere to the plastic if it was applied with an airbrush. I have yet to call them, but I have a black interior and have used their dye on the leather.

Jscott,
Martin is right on here. He's been down this road many times. Another option is to replace them with carbon fiber replacements. KZ Automotive is completing the kit now. Keep an eye on this site for an update on the project.

Scott,
from your hellish friend in Miami:

Open the ash tray and remove the two plastic trays. Unscrew the ashtray (2 screws) and take the ashtray out.
Remove the shift knob and the 4 screws holding the shift gate. pull back slightly and the center piece will become lose. Take it out.
The AC control pannel is also just stuck into the upper lip by the radio. Pull down on it and it will come lose.
Watch out now. Protect the leather on the console with plastic. In order to remove the AC control panel you have to unscrew the 2 gauges and the AC control unit. 6 or 8 tiny screws. No big deal. Since you will have the whole assembly in your hand and need to screw you may end up resting it on the leather which leaves gue on the leather. Hard to clean afterwards.

Do not replace them with factory parts again. Either have them refinsihed (I can have that done for you) or redoe them your self. Scrap the gue down under water with powder soap and hard scrubbing and then refinsih them with flat black. The steering colum is likely the same. 6 or 8 screws on the bottom and the side window pieces are 2 or 3 screws and come out. Doorhandles are tricky. Can't tell you never done them. The T-top handles have it as well and are easy to disassemble with an allen wrench.

Sounds hard but is not. The sticky removal is what takes time. Lots of scraping and shrubbing with steel wool.

Have fun and don't make dates for that night. Your fingernails look like those of a mechanic.

I read the pervious thread about this problem with the 348. Seems the plastic on the center console deteriorates with time and becomes sticky and soft. Can someone tell me how to take that center console plastic out? Does it just pop out or do I need to remove the entire console to get to it? I intend to scrape, sand and refinish it. Thanks for any advise.
Scott
